Backyard Burn Season Update:
Backyard burning remains closed in Clackamas Fire’s service area.
The Oregon Department of Forestry (ODF) has not yet ended regulated fire season, and Clackamas Fire will coordinate the opening of backyard burning with ODF. This approach provides consistent guidance for our community, particularly because a large portion of Clackamas Fire’s service area falls within ODF boundaries.
While the recent weather may feel like fall has arrived, conditions remain very dry. We are entering a prolonged period of dry, warm weather, with east winds possible. We need wetting rains and safer conditions before opening backyard burning. To minimize the risk of unintended escaped fires, Clackamas Fire and our partners are taking a unified approach and keeping backyard burning closed for now.
We are currently targeting October 15 for the opening of backyard burning, but that date is dependent on conditions and the end of regulated fire season. We will reevaluate conditions and provide an update when a final opening date is determined.
If you have a non-emergency complaint about outdoor burning, including burning during the closed season or burning prohibited materials such as household garbage or construction debris, please submit a complaint to the Oregon Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ).
