Our students recently had the opportunity to experience contemporary dance in a way that was active, engaging, and connected directly to their learning.
Dancers from Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company helped students explore important elements of dance by breaking down concepts, demonstrating them through movement, and inviting students and teachers to participate. Rather than only watching a performance, students were able to move, observe, make connections, and build a deeper understanding of dance as an art form.
The program also supports Utah fine arts standards by helping students develop skills in responding to, creating, and connecting through dance. Spanish vocabulary was incorporated into the presentation as well, helping make the experience more accessible for many of our students.
Experiences like this are an important part of learning. They give students opportunities to build background knowledge, experience the arts firsthand, and make connections that extend beyond the classroom.
A big thank you to Ririe-Woodbury Dance Company for sharing your talent and learning with our students, and to USBE and the Professional Outreach Programs in the Schools (POPS) for sponsoring this opportunity for Oakdale students. 💙
