Today we had our OFFICIAL kickoff to our can drive!!

We have already collected over 45,000 cans!! WOW!

We were joined by Constellium today at our school! Students had a great presentation about the different types aluminum, fun facts, and how our recycled cans can be used on ROCKET SHIPS! 🚀.

At the end of the presentation, something unexpected happened.. ConStellium presented Gilmore Elementary with a check that brings us to our goal!! After a little over a year, we have made it!

We are so thankful for them and for our community!! We are still collecting cans for our playground. All cans collected will go toward new playground equipment, new Preschool playground equipment, new benches, swings, and other additions we plan to make to our playground for our community and years of students to come!

Thank you to EVERYONE that has been collecting cans. We are just getting started in this competition… so keep it up! 💚♻️🏴‍☠️

We had a PACKED week at Gilmore Elementary!

Students were busy learning in the classroom.. but they did take a few minutes away for some fun and educational activities!!

1) Our 5th graders were able to visit the Mill Creek Water Festival where they were surrounded by amazing water STEM activities and presentations! It was a wonderful experience for our kids!

2) Our PK-4th graders celebrated Fire Safety Week by having a visit from the Silverton Volunteer Fire Department where students learned about fire safety, how firefighters go in and fight fires, and how a fire truck really works! They had a blast learning!

3) Our 3rd-5th graders entered our annual Volleyball tournament where 5th grade took the prize.. that is until our teachers joined in the fun!!

We made the most of our 4 day week and filled it with learning, growing, and engaging activities!

Don’t stop now.. we are just getting started in our NATIONAL competition!!

On September 15th, Gilmore Elementary celebrated Dot Day! The whole purpose of Dot Day is to take something ordinary - a dot and make it something unique and special. It is to make your mark on the world!

Mrs. Hinzman sent home a project for students to do.. turn your dot into something. Anything. Just use your imagination and creativity! WOW! Our students did a fantastic job with it - it is displayed in the last picture in our post. The other pictures are what different teachers around the building had students create. The halls were filled with dots! It was amazing to see their minds growing as they created something special and new and completely theirs!

🎉 TODAY IS THE DAY, GILMORE!

Our 1,000,000 Can Challenge officially kicks off TODAY, and we are ready to make a BIG impact!

We are joining more than 70 schools across 14 states in an exciting competition to collect cans, win prizes, earn money, and make a difference! The best part? We get to keep the money we raise from every can collected!
And we have a BIG goal in mind… OUR BRAND-NEW PLAYGROUND! 🛝

We are now just $7,000 AWAY from reaching our fundraising goal! We are SO close that we can almost hear the laughter, see the smiles, and imagine our students enjoying their new playground! Every can counts, and every contribution brings us one step closer!

A COMMUNITY THAT COMES TOGETHER CAN DO INCREDIBLE THINGS!

A HUGE THANK YOU to B&W Auto Specialist, Riverbend Farm & Home Supply, McDonald's, Fairplain Elementary School, Constellium, City of Ravenswood WV, RT 56 Golf Course, RJ Recycling for picking up and processing all of the cans, and our entire community for stepping up and helping collect cans for our students!

Can't make it to Gilmore? No problem! Several of these amazing local businesses are serving as collection sites and will bring your cans to us. We are grateful for every person and business willing to be part of this mission!

Today’s kickoff was about more than just collecting cans. Our students are learning that small actions can lead to BIG changes! ♻️
📖 Our morning began with an inspiring story, written by Scuba Jess and read by our principal, about the importance of recycling and taking care of our world.

Our incredible third graders then put their creativity to work, decorating 10 collection bins that will soon be placed throughout our community to make donating cans even easier!

🚀 And we're just getting started! Next week, we'll kick off an exciting partnership with Constellium, giving our students an up-close look at how recycled aluminum can help build rockets and other amazing things!

🥫 Start saving those cans.
🤝 Spread the word.
💛 Rally your friends, family, and neighbors.
🛝 Help us build something AMAZING for our kids!

ONE COMMUNITY. ONE MILLION CANS.

LET'S DO THIS, GILMORE! 🎉🥫🚀💚
