Thoughts and prayers are going out to the Durham Fire Department and their families this morning.

The North Carolina Chapter of the International Association of Arson Investigators (NCIAAI) extends our deepest, most heartfelt condolences to the Durham Fire Department, as well as the family, friends, and colleagues of the fallen firefighter during this heartbreaking time of loss.

We stand with the entire Durham community in mourning this tragic sacrifice. Our thoughts and prayers are also with the two injured firefighters as they recover, as well as their families and all those affected by this devastating incident.

Please know that your brothers and sisters across the state and the entire fire service community are surrounding you with support, strength, and love.

Thank you to J. Glenn Edward’s Elementary for having us today to kick off Fire Prevention Week! We got to meet the Kindergartners today and teach them a little about fire safety!

🌡️ Heat Exhaustion Can Strike Quickly! With North Carolina’s hot, humid, and sometimes unpredictable weather, NC OSFM and Safe Kids North Carolina are working together to keep you aware of the risks and symptoms of heat exhaustion in both adults and children.

If you're coaching, teaching, or supervising kids this summer, tag someone who should see this! ⬇️

This summer, recognize the warning signs before it's too late:
⚠️ Heavy sweating (or NO sweating - that's even worse)
⚠️ Dizziness or weakness
⚠️ Nausea or headache
⚠️ Rapid or weak pulse
⚠️ Confusion or irritability

Children, the elderly, and outdoor workers are at the greatest risk. Make sure to check on them during peak heat hours (11 AM - 3 PM). Stay tuned for more summer safety tips to keep you and your family protected. Follow NC OSFM and Safe Kids NC for further updates.
