Good afternoon Sangerville, I want to announce that we have completed a draft for an application for the Maine Historic Preservation Commission $500,000.00 grant for renovating the town hall. That draft has been sent to the select board for review as well as will be reviewed by our engineer and tonight at a public meeting of the town hall committee and the historical society. That meeting will be at the fire station at 6:00 PM. I am open to any and all positive editing suggestions that might improve our chances to obtain this grant. If you cannot make the meeting but would like to review the draft application, email me and I will send the document to you. The due date for submission is October 23.
The fundraising for the grant match is going well but I don't have an accurate figure to publish at this time, but it is important to note that although we are very grateful for the generous donations we have received, we are still actively fundraising.
The town hall clean-up day on September 26, went very well; thank you to all the volunteers.
Normally, the first Wednesday of each month is select board meeting. This month we have postponed our first meeting one week until October 14, because of the Maine Municipal Convention in Augusta. Michelle, Kelsey and I will all be attending the convention, so the office will be closed Thursday of this week in addition to Wednesday.
We have the winter sand put up and poured a new concrete floor in the salt shed to replace the one that had completely disintegrated. We will be doing culvert work on the Rt. 23 end of the Silvers Mills Rd. on Friday.
The town office staff is talking with the special event committee and the fire department about doing something for a downtown Halloween celebration this year; we are entertaining ideas. The fire department will also be having an open house with free food on Halloween, so in addition to bringing the kids by to trick or treat and play games, the whole family can get burgers and hot dogs and you can ask us questions about the fire department and how to become a member.
With all the work we are doing to fundraise for the town hall I wanted to make sure we did not let another fundraising improvement initiative in town fall by the wayside. We have a very dedicated volunteer parks and recreation committee that is currently fundraising to replace the playground equipment at Veterans Memorial Park.
To close; on the subject of veterans. I am planning to have our annual Veteran's Day ceremony at the Veterans Memorial on Wednesday November 11th. Anyone who would like to participate or has any ideas to improve the ceremony please let me know.
Thanks, we will be back in the office on Friday, have a great week.
Brian
