Chispa Chispa is a brave organizing political home for young Latinxs in Orange County. Chispa was created as a response to the results of the 2016 election results.

Despite the growth of the Latinx population, the country elected a President who built his campaign on attacks against communities of color, and who quickly moved to implement racist policies that seek to criminalize and police people of color. Locally, Orange County remains as conservative as ever, and Latinxs remain marginalized due to a lack of political clout. Even in Santa Ana, which maintains a Latinx City Council, Latinxs find themselves being pushed out by gentrification, a lack of affordable housing, and a growing preference by the city to divest from investments in youth programming in exchange for investments in failed tough on crime policies and cuts to police accountability. Chispa was born in order to build a political home for young Latinxs to grow the people power necessary to hold elected officials accountable and responsive to the needs of working class Latinxs in the county.

Join us at Santa Ana City Hall tomorrow at 5pm to demand the Council END all ALPR contracts including Flock & Motorola!! 🎥❌

Mayor Amezcua, Mayor Pro Tem David Penaloza, and Councilmember Phil Bacerra refuse to meet with us about this issue. Meanwhile, our privacy and civil liberties are being violated by this surveillance technology.

Since they don’t want to meet with us in private, let’s show up in full force and hold them accountable.

Comment “action” and we’ll send you the details for tomorrow! Or checkout the link in our bio to RSVP! 🔗

It’s time to let Santa Ana City Council know how our community feels about automated license plate reader (ALPR) cameras.

On Tuesday, October 6, Flock and ALPR surveillance are officially on the Santa Ana City Council agenda. Join Chispa and community members at City Hall to rally, make public comment, and demand an end to mass surveillance in Santa Ana.

Important: Item 30 does NOT cancel the Flock or Motorola contracts. Instead, the item asks City Council to consider directing staff to return within 30 days with information.

This is an important opportunity for our community to tell City Council what we want them to do next. Sign up for our rally if you’d like to receive talking points!
