This week, California Secretary of Transportation Toks Omishakin visited the bluffs near Crystal Cove State Beach to get a firsthand look at Caltrans’ efforts to stabilize the slope.

High tides and increasingly active waves are impacting coasts across the state. The response to the eroding bluffs near Coast Highway is one of many efforts to ensure the safety of the traveling public.

Secretary Omishakin’s visit underscores the importance of partnership between Caltrans, California State Parks, and the California Coastal Commission to secure the cliffs and protect Coast Highway. Thank you for your cooperation as we push solutions forward.

Building a Safer, Stronger Pacific Coast Highway!

Caltrans is leading the Safer, Stronger Pacific Coast Highway: PCH Climate Adaptation and Resiliency Plan to address existing and future climate threats along the PCH corridor within Orange County.

The goal of this effort is to find ways to protect the roadway, keep people traveling safely, and maintainaccess to coastal communities and important local resources.

Help Caltrans protect and strengthen the PCH by taking the community survey available from October 9 - November

Join the virtual workshop on October 21, 2026, from 6-7:30 p.m. to learn more about the potential climate resilience strategies and share your input on community priorities and project tradeoffs.
