On October 14, 2026, officers from the California Highway Patrol’s Santa Ana Area Office conducted a Special Enforcement Unit (SEU) operation along the Santiago Canyon corridor, enhancing roadway safety, addressing community concerns and keeping our roadways safe.

One of the key issues tackled: high speed in areas clearly marked with black and white regulatory signs.

These signs aren’t just suggestions-they’re the law. Following them is critical to keeping all drivers safe along this busy stretch of highway.

On September 29, 2026, Captain Gus Torres presented Senior Volunteer (SV) Bob Silva with a Commander’s Commendation for his outstanding dedication and continued support to the Santa Ana Area. SV Silva has been an integral part of the Santa Ana Area’s SV Post since 2012. During this time, SV Silva has logged over 1,000 volunteer hours. SV Silva assists the Santa Ana Area with a myriad of assignments ranging from car seat installations to in-view school zone patrol.

It is with profound sadness that the California Highway Patrol announces the line-of-duty death of Officer Brian Liles of the Visalia Area.

On September 28, 2026, at approximately 5:11 p.m., CHP Motorcycle Officer Liles was involved in an on-duty traffic crash on State Route 99, just north of State Route 190 in Tipton. He sustained critical injuries and, despite lifesaving efforts, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Officer Liles, 44, served the people of California for more than 16 years. After graduating from the CHP Academy in 2010, he was assigned to the San Jose Area and later served in the Hayward and Fresno Areas before transferring to the Visalia Area in 2019.

Officer Liles is survived by his wife, two children, his parents, and two sisters.

The CHP extends its deepest condolences to Officer Liles' family, friends, loved ones, and all who served alongside him. His dedication to public service and commitment to protecting the people of California will not be forgotten.

It's National "See Tracks? Think Train" Week!

Do you about the blue-and-white sign at every railroad crossing? 🔵⚪

The Emergency Notification System (ENS) sign provides a phone number and crossing ID to report problems or emergencies at the crossing.

If your vehicle gets stuck on the tracks, get out immediately, move away from the tracks, and call the number on the sign to get trains stopped. If you can't find the sign, call 9-1-1.

Know the sign and know what to do. Stay safe around railroad tracks.

To help keep California’s roads safe, the CHP will conduct a Labor Day Holiday Enforcement Period (HEP) from 6:00 p.m. Friday, Sept. 4, through 11:59 p.m. Monday, Sept. 7.
