馃敟SBFD personnel recently participated in two CA-219 Firing Operations courses, sharpening their skills in wildland firefighting tools and techniques used to help manage and suppress wildfires.
A huge thank you to our regional partners from Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo Counties for supporting this important training. Strong partnerships and ongoing training help ensure we're ready when wildfire season arrives. 馃殥馃尶

馃敟 As Wildfire Awareness Month ends, preparedness remains a year-round responsibility.
Throughout the month, we've shared tips on defensible space, vegetation management, emergency planning, and wildfire readiness. Now is the time to put those lessons into action.
Take the next step by exploring the Ready, Set, Go! program, it鈥檚 a simple and effective way to prepare your family, home, and neighborhood for wildfire season. Learn how to be Ready with preparedness plans, Set with situational awareness, and Go early when evacuation is needed.

馃摙 Join us for a Community Meeting about the proposed Coastal Wildland Fire Suppression Assessment District
鈴诧笍 Wednesday, May 20, 2026, at 5:30 PM at Godric Grove in Elings Park, located at 1298 Las Positas Road.
If approved, the proposed assessment would fund a coordinated set of wildland fire prevention and mitigation services within the Coastal and Coastal Interior High Fire Hazard Areas, including:
馃尶 Roadside vegetation clearance
馃尶 Defensible space vegetation chipping
馃尶 Vegetation management
Community members are encouraged to attend, learn more, ask questions, and stay informed. We look forward to seeing you there!

This afternoon at approximately 2:20 PM, Santa Barbara City Fire Department responded to a structure fire at 1200 block of Laguna Street involving a two-unit dwelling.
SBFD responded with 5 fire engines, 1 ladder truck, 1 hazmat and a Battalion Chief. Firefighters encountered heavy fire conditions in the lower unit and worked quickly to contain the incident and prevent further spread.
Both units have been displaced until further notice. No injuries to civilians or fire personnel reported.
Fire investigators responded to the scene, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

We celebrated well-earned promotions across several ranks, including Engineers, Captains, and a Fire Inspector and swore-in one firefighter.
Each of these individuals plays a vital role in moving our department forward through their leadership, dedication, and commitment to serving our community every day.
Their advancement reflects years of hard work, sacrifice, and professionalism and we are proud to celebrate this important milestone in their careers.

To wrap up Volunteer Appreciation Month, SBFD would like to thank and recognize all of our incredible volunteers for the time, dedication, and heart they bring to our department and community every day. 鉂わ笍馃殥
We hosted a Volunteer Appreciation Lunch where we recognized and honored 31 volunteers who have dedicated hundreds of hours supporting our programs, events, and emergency preparedness efforts.
From CERT, Outreach in Espa帽ol to the Fire Safety House and daily operations, your support helps keep our community safe, prepared, and connected.
馃憦 Congratulations to our Heart of Service Award Recipient, Monica Gastelum; Community Champion Award Recipient, Jose Fierros; and Purposeful Partner Award Recipient, Jim Caesar.
Although the month is over, our appreciation for all that you do continues year-round.
