June 9 marks the birthday of Huguette Marcelle Clark (1906–2011) — painter, violinist, philanthropist, and heiress whose quiet stewardship kept Bellosguardo intact for more than half a century. The youngest daughter of copper magnate and U.S. Senator William A. Clark, she left an estate that now welcomes the public she never met in person.

The rose garden at Bellosguardo no longer blooms, but its bones are intact — symmetrical beds, an Italian fountain, the formal logic of the original design still legible from the air.

Bellosguardo was thrilled to welcome Chancellor Dennis Assanis, his wife Elani and friends for a pre-inauguration reception on Tuesday, May 26th.Over the last few decades UCSB has flourished while bringing excellence and innovation to our community. Highlights from Mother’s Day with a special mother-daughter duo performance featuring acclaimed Canadian pianist Micah Yui with her sensational 19-year-old daughter, cellist Mira Kardan. They presented the beloved music of Beethoven, Schumann, and Dvorak, along with the show-stopping “Figaro” from The Barber of Seville by Rossini. Mira Kardan is a rapidly rising star and award-winning cellist, currently studying at the renowned Glenn Gould School in Toronto, and pianist Micah Yui has graced concert stages throughout the world.
