Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital is a 519-bed acute care teaching hospital and trauma center, the largest of its kind between Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area. The hospital was founded in 1888 by 50 women determined to provide a healthcare facility for the growing community of Santa Barbara. Now with annual admissions of more than 20,000 patients, nearly 73,000 emergency department visits, and 2,400 births, Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital is renowned for the breadth of its services.

Join the Junior Wheelchair Sports Camp family and help campers ages 6–21 with physical disabilities experience wheelchair sports and recreation activities and more.

This five-day camp will be held July 13–17, 2026, at the Recreation Center on the UCSB campus. Volunteers ages 14 and older are welcome to apply.

Join Cottage Center for Orthopedics for a free virtual Meet the Doctor event, “Advances in Joint Health and Replacement.” The presentation will be led by Dr. William Gallivan, a board-certified orthopedic surgeon affiliated with Cottage Health.

For Rummy and Antonio, resilience is part of their story. When Rummy suffered an aneurysm, Cottage helped her heal. Months prior, a heart procedure at Cottage saved Antonio’s life. This year they celebrate 55 years of marriage with four generations of family.

Dr. Jane Varner has been appointed Medical Director for the growing Cottage Center for Women’s Health, a new model of coordinated women’s care for the Santa Barbara region.

A family physician with 25 years of experience in patient care and healthcare leadership, Dr. Varner is a strong advocate for women’s health and health equity and brings a bold vision to this new leadership role.

The center and its programs will bring together primary and specialty care, diagnostics and supportive services to offer a single, trusted entry point for integrated care across outpatient and hospital settings.

“I’ve been waiting 25 years for women’s health to get the attention it deserves. Now is the time,” said Dr. Varner.
