A community of businesses and organizations in the historic heart of Santa Barbara.

The Presidio Neighborhood is a vibrant few blocks in the heart of Santa Barbara, centered around the historical site of the last of the Spanish fortresses, or presidios to be built in California. Encompassing what was also once the city’s Chinatown, the neighborhood is now home to a variety of intriguing shops, w**e tasting rooms, world class restaurants, casual eateries, bars, coffee houses, and cultural treasures. Walking the neighborhood rewards the visitor with discoveries of hidden walkways, courtyards, and amazing architectural details set against the backdrop of the American Riviera and the Santa Ynez mountains. In addition to the El Presidio de Santa Bárbara State Historic Park, within the boundaries of the Presidio Neighborhood are the Historical Museum of Santa Barbara, the Casa de la Guerra - one of the city’s earliest homes, the historic El Paseo complex, and the beautifully renovated Lobero Theater, California’s oldest continuously operating theater. With plentiful parking nearby, the Neighborhood encourages visitors to leave the car, explore on foot, and make a day of it!

We’re on the corner of Ortega and Anacapa at none other than La Paloma Cafe 🍸⭐️

This iconic building has stood in the Presidio Neighborhood for more than a century and has been a beloved gathering place in Santa Barbara for decades.

It’s layered with history, and Sophia Ramos of Acme Hospitality shares a few of the stories that make up this place in this week’s Get to Know the Presidio episode.

Paloma is known for its California-inspired dishes made with seasonal ingredients, picturesque patio seating, and welcoming atmosphere. It doesn’t get better than that!

We think it’s safe to say that Three Pickles💚 and Pickle Room have earned local legend status in the Presidio Neighborhood 🤝

In our latest Get to Know the Presidio blog, we sit down with owner Clay Lovejoy who shares how he and his dad, Bob Lovejoy, with partner Bob McCourt, founded the business in the Presidio Neighborhood, and why Three Pickles sandwiches are rooted in family, tradition, and this special place.

Three Pickles is housed in the Jimmy’s Oriental Gardens Building at 126 E. Canon Perdido Street, a historic resource in El Presidio de Santa Bárbara State Historic Park, which was recently added to the National Register of Historic Places.

Last weekend, the Presidio Neighborhood came together to celebrate the Santa Barbara Independent’s 40th birthday with a community block party filled with live music, panels, tastings, and giveaways. We loved being able to help host everyone right here at El Presido.

The next time you walk through the lobby at El Paseo Restaurant, look up ⬆️

This beautiful painting depicts important events in the life of St. Francis of Assisi, based on a collection of legends about his life called the “Little Flowers” 🌼

The artist painted each medallion on canvas before attaching them to the ceiling and stenciling the borders.

This ceiling was painted by Dudley Carpenter in 1925, two years after the opening of the El Paseo Restaurant. Carpenter was on the faculty of the Santa Barbara School of the Arts, and one of the original members of the Santa Barbara Art League, which was founded by sixteen resident artists over dinner at El Paseo in 1924.

We’re spending a summer evening at Zaytoon, a hidden oasis in Santa Barbara known for its dreamy garden patio and incredible Lebanese dishes ✨🥗
