After nearly 21 years with the Santa Barbara Police Department and almost 28 years in law enforcement, Sergeant Douglas Klug has retired from a distinguished career of public service.
Sgt. Klug joined SBPD as a lateral officer in 2005 and served in several assignments, including Patrol Officer, Detective, SWAT team member, Field Training Officer, SFST Instructor, and DRE Instructor.

Throughout his career, he received several recognitions, including two MADD Century Awards for more than 100 DUI arrests in a calendar year, along with being named a Guerry Award recipient in 2013.

He later supervised the Traffic and Parking Unit, where he helped address community concerns related to traffic safety, parking, and e-bicycle education.

Thank you, Sgt. Klug, for your years of service, leadership, and dedication to the Santa Barbara community. We wish you all the best in retirement.

Happy Retirement, Sgt. Klug!

Today, we were honored to host the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Southern California during its final leg through South Santa Barbara County.

SBPD was proud to run alongside our athletes and partner agencies as we carried the Flame of Hope through Santa Barbara in support of inclusion, unity, and the Special Olympics mission.

We want to extend a sincere thank you to everyone who joined us at front of our station for the Law Enforcement Torch Run Ceremony, as participants paused their run to be recognized by our community and to hear remarks from our Chief of Police Kelly Gordon, who highlighted the importance of supporting Special Olympics athletes and the impact of this long-standing tradition.

We are grateful to our community, partner agencies, and all participants who helped make today’s event a meaningful moment in this year’s run.
