LPA has a new Principal filled with enthusiasm to help its small but mighty student population reach their educational goals!
Learning Post Academy graduation celebrates self-determination It’s possible that Learning Post Academy’s 2026 graduating class represents the aftermath of a sea change for middle and high school education. Five years after the first fall of the COVID-19 pandemic, the students initially driven to online instruction by […]

I had the great honor of shadowing the one and only Mia Reed at West Ranch in honor of Classified school employee week. I can report to you that…She is really good at her job! She gave me the opportunity to send an email to the principal, Mr. Fisher, and it took me longer than it should because I’m right handed and she uses a left handed mouse. Here is the impressive part: she is also right handed, but she trained herself to use a left handed mouse many years ago in a warehouse job so that she could work faster to input inventory by using both hands.
I interviewed people as she took me on a tour to see what sets her apart. They mentioned her exceptional organizational skills along with her attention to detail and personal touch. There are two new staff members at the Ranch (as they affectionately call the school) and she had name plates made for them, helping them feel more welcome along with making it easier for others to get to know them.
Mia’s name is on the Honor wall at school since she served in the military. How fitting since there are multiple days set aside in May to honor those who have served in our United States military. Mia also represents another group that we honor in May- our Asian and Pacific Islander Americans🫶 Thank you Mia for giving me a small glimpse into your world as Office Manager at West Ranch High!

Sierra Vista Junior high gave their school report at the board meeting this week. I am impressed with Principal Marcus Garrett who has an extensive reading list. His book recommendations were the Anxious Generation by Jonathon Haidt, Leading with the Heart by Mike Krzyzewski, and 10-25 by David Yeager. I look forward to reading the last two. And if you have not yet read Anxious Generation- do yourself and your kids a favor…Read it!!!

We appreciate our teachers! And we Appreciate our Moms! Many of our teachers are moms and our Moms are our greatest teachers. That said, I would like to introduce as the perfect book to celebrate both teachers and mothers: Little Women. It’s a classic and I hope you will all accept my invitation to read it (even if it’s a re-read). My daughters and I have fond memories of reading this together! It inspired many teaching moments and opportunities to share important stories.
The mother in Little Women, affectionately known as “Marmee”, teaches her girls:
“I am not afraid of storms, for I am learning how to sail my ship”
May 6 board meeting book recommendation: LITTLE WOMEN.

Demo Day is an event created by Josh Underwood, a Canyon High school Computer Science teacher. His App Development students host the campus in a mini trade show style environment. They serve pizza, drinks, and treats. There are stations throughout the room where students from campus can try their games. The most important piece is the real world experience the class provides.
I appreciated seeing how excited the students were to share what they had created and the many useful lessons they learned along the way!
