Palestine Justice Coalition The Palestine Justice Coalition, Santa Cruz (formerly PIAC) is a Santa Cruz County based social justice organization.

Position Statement:
In support of Palestinian self-determination, we oppose US military, diplomatic, financial, corporate, and all other contributions to Israel’s occupation and apartheid policies. We support Palestinian civil society’s call for boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) against Israel until it complies with international law and universal principles of human rights. We stand in solidarity with the Palestinian struggle to end all forms of Israeli occupation, including military, legal, economic, cultural, and political oppression. We respect and promote the right of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes as stipulated in UN Resolution 194, and we insist that Israel recognize and implement the full equality of Palestinian citizens of Israel. We oppose Islamophobia, all forms of racism, and any expressions of bigotry directed at any person or group. We stand opposed to anti-Semitism in all its forms: we thus reject the charge of anti-Semitism when used spuriously to silence legitimate criticism of Israel’s policies and practices.

A new report by the Israeli human rights group B’Tselem found Israeli soldiers killed at least 54 Palestinian children and teens in the West Bank last year, the highest rate since Israel occupied the West Bank in 1967.

Palestinian citizens of Israel were among those who gave B’Tselem testimonies about torture in Israeli detention facilities since October 2023. Although their legal status differs from that of Palestinians in the West Bank, East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip, and they are subject to a different legal system, they were held in the same conditions and exposed to similar abuse.

Sleep deprivation, systematic starvation and the denial of medical care are employed throughout facilities where Palestinians are held. Some detainees also testified to severe sexual assaults. At least 90 Palestinians have died in these torture facilities since October 2023 as a result of the inhumane conditions.

The torture and inhumane treatment are carried out with the full backing of Israel’s political leadership, which openly boasts about violating prisoners’ rights and imposing harsh prison conditions.
