AmeriCorps members and AmeriCorps Senior volunteers address the most pressing challenges facing our cities, counties, state, and nation. Whether supporting food banks and homeless shelters, restoring parks, providing health services, strengthening public safety and juvenile justice services, tutoring and mentoring students, and managing community volunteers, national service members help our society tackle problems.

Thank you for your service to better your communities and be part of the solution as we strive to get things done in New Mexico

From restoration to connection: Ancestral Lands Conservation Corps’ (ALCC)() MLK Day of Service brought families, partners, and community together along the Bosque. ALCC welcomed 40 participants to a burn unit where they helped plant 33 coyote willows, 46 baccharis willows, and seed 1 acre of native grasses.

The event gave families a firsthand look at the meaningful projects AmeriCorps members take on every day, filling the space with smiles, laughter, and shared purpose. Not only did the event restore the area, but it also strengthened partnerships and deepened understanding of participants beyond traditional programming.

Shout out to for helping make this event possible through strong collaboration and support.

From cleanup to creativity: Albuquerque Sign Language Academy’s (ASLA) () MLK Day of Service highlighted artwork created by community members with developmental disabilities.

This year, ASLA, AmeriCorps members, and AmeriCorps*VISTA members came together to beautify the North Fourth Art Center by installing ceramic pieces on the building's exterior and indoor cleaning to refresh and brighten the space. The result is a display of program participants’ artwork for the greater community and an enhanced facility for public enjoyment.

A spring follow-up is planned to allow students to return and add their own ceramic pieces to the outdoor columns.

On Monday, January 19, the MLK Day of Service is America’s opportunity to re-commit ourselves through service to one another and our communities.

AmeriCorps New Mexico programs, members, and community volunteers are participating in meaningful service projects throughout northern, central and southern New Mexico including:
• DreamTree will host a community food drive, engaging volunteers in donation collection and delivery to Shared Table, a local organization working to address food insecurity in the Toas area.
• AmeriCorps members from the Albuquerque Sign Language Academy have partnered with North Fourth Art Center, a nonprofit organization catering to the learning, creative and entrepreneurial goals of adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to support outdoor beautification and facility improvements. Activities include litter removal, landscape maintenance, window cleaning and the installation of student artwork.
• Families & Youth Innovations Plus will lead a park clean-up in Las Cruces, engaging volunteers in environmental stewardship and park maintenance efforts. This is a partnership with Keep Las Cruces Beautiful, a volunteer-based beautification program funded by the City of Las Cruces.
