NMFO SPOTLIGHT ON LEVI LOBO

Levi Lobo, actor, writer producer and founder of ERA Cinema, returned to Albuquerque to direct the project, “Mr. Spaceship, An Adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s Novelette” at ABQ Castle Studios. The project was an opportunity to work with a new hybrid technology with Hartbeat, Kevin Hart’s production company.

“They asked me to do one with them and it was based on this Philip K. Dick book. I’m a fan of his work and ‘Blade Runner.’ It was kind of a challenge, but also exciting,” Lobo said.

Lobo and crew finished principal photography in August and are currently in post-production in Albuquerque.

Born in Albuquerque and raised in Tijeras, his family moved to the International District when he was 10 and they ran a ministry for 10 years. His family was featured on “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” when he was 14. That was one of the moments when he fell in love with the film industry. One of his priorities is to bring jobs to New Mexico.

"I mean, honestly, that's the biggest conversation I have with people, whether they're from out of state or in state,” he said. “I spent four years in LA. I tried to learn as much as I could because I knew I wanted to help the industry here. I knew that if we can get key creatives growing and development here, knowing what it looks like to get through development all the way to distribution, then we could build a more sustainable industry here because we have the tools, we have the creatives, we have the resources. It's just learning how to get them in the right place at the right time. New Mexico has opened up its arms to me as a young independent filmmaker. I think that that's a testament to New Mexico."

Before he learned martial arts, Noah Centineo filmed in New Mexico.

Back in 2016, Centineo landed the role of Hawk in the second and third season of the AwesomenessTV-produced web series "T@gged." The show is a teen psychological thriller about three high school girls whose online profiles are “tagged” with violent videos, forcing them to uncover the culprit before they are harmed.

Now he's stepping into the role of Ken Masters in the film "Street Fighter," which opened this weekend and came in at No. 1 at the box office.

The New Mexico Film Office had the opportunity to take part in Santa Fe International Film Festival's "NM Shorts After Dark" at the CCA on Oct. 15.

Many of the filmmakers utilized the state's film incentive package to create their short film.

It was wonderful to see the level of creativity from the block of short films, which included "Amygdala," "Frontera," "Last Ditch," "Meathead," "Red Razor on Soft Skin, "Shroomery," "Valentina's Tax" and "We Didn't Know Why."

Congratulations to the directors and the crews who helped bring the productions to the big screen. This is just one example of how the New Mexico film community comes together.

The block of shorts can be seen Oct. 19 at Guild Cinema.

Taos-based director Hillary Bachelder will be in attendance for its screening at 5:15 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 15, at Sky Cinemas Midtown.

NM-filmed feature debuts at SFiFF!

Patience is key for Kristin Goodman. The writer/director took time to create the feature film “ ” as she adapted it from her play that was staged in 2021.

” tells the story of Brooke Haven (Cassidy Freeman) and Chelsea Haven (Alexandra Renzo), who agree to star in a reality TV show based on their childhood fame as the daughters of the first real mommy blogger. They quickly learn reality is negotiable, relationships are for sale and sisterhood is the only thing that can save them.

The film is set to premiere at the Santa Fe International Film Festival with two screenings on Oct. 15 and a third on Oct. 18, at Sky Cinemas Midtown.

The production filmed in Albuquerque over the course of 16 days. Goodman took time to speak with the New Mexico Film Office about her experience filming in Albuquerque.

Congratulations to Goodman, her team and the New Mexicans who worked in front and behind the camera on this one.

Congratulations to New Mexico native Amber Midthunder on her role in "Carrie," which has been the No. 1 streamed project on Prime Video since its Oct. 7 release.

The series follows misfit high‑schooler Carrie White (Summer H. Howell), who has spent her life hidden away inside the walls of her home with her fiercely protective mother, Margaret (Samantha Sloyan). After her father’s sudden, untimely death thrusts her into the unforgiving ecosystem of public high school, Carrie is forced to navigate a viral bullying scandal that tears through her community, the relentless pressure and casual cruelty of the social‑media age, and the awakening of mysterious telekinetic powers that rise alongside her adolescence.

Midthunder plays Miss Rita Desjardin, a flawed but pivotal gym teacher in the eight‑episode modern reimagining of Stephen King’s "Carrie," and she’s praised for bringing depth and humanity to the role.

Midthunder is no stranger to being on screen in New Mexico-filmed productions. She also continues to break barriers within the industry and has built an impressive résumé with her roles in "Prey," "Opus," "Rez Ball," "Roswell, New Mexico," "Legion," "The Ice Road" and so many more.

We continue to enjoy watching her career continuing to flourish.

Congratulations to New Mexico actor Shylo Molina on his role in the CBS show "Eternally Yours."

The family comedy is centered around Charles (Ed Weeks) and Liz (Allegra Edwards) – a vampire couple whose once-passionate romance has devolved into a pulseless marriage after 500 years together. Living in present-day Seattle with their oddball coven, they’ve settled into an eternal rut – until their daughter’s earnest human boyfriend unexpectedly enters their lives and forces them to confront whether their love can survive forever.

In the series, Molina plays Henry, a super-powered half-vampire twin who possesses strong vampire abilities.

The series premieres at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, on CBS. It will also stream on Paramount+ the next day.

Molina got his start acting in New Mexico and has appeared in "In Plain Sight," "Manhattan," "Perpetual Grace, LTD," "Stargirl," "Deadly Illusions," "Behind the Yellow House" and "The Really Loud House." Earlier this year, he had a role in "Lee Cronin's The Mummy."

Proud of this young actor's work in rising through the ranks.
