From Sheriff Adan Mendoza, the S.O. Registry Team and everyone at the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office:
As Halloween nears, keep the following facts and tips in mind so everyone can enjoy a Safe and Fun holiday:
Reminders for EVERYONE:
Drive slowly
Yield to Pedestrians
Watch for children who may run into the street
Don’t Drink and Drive!!
Halloween falls on Saturday this year. Plan for safe transportation if you are having drinks and attending parties or going out. NO DRINKING AND DRIVING. Keep children safe!
If you have a house party planned, please keep in mind that children are out trick or treating. You don’t want your guests to drink and drive, especially on a children’s holiday. Ask guests to arrange for safe transportation ahead of time. Consider taking keys at the door or hiring a driver to deliver guests home safely.
PARENTS AND GUARDIANS:
Download the free Offender Watch App available on Google Play or the App Store
Don’t let your kids out with a realistic looking fi***rm as part of their costume
Make sure costumes are light-colored and Non-Flammable
Don’t let them wear anything that can impair vision
Closely Inspect your children’s treats before they eat them
Keep pets inside or in a safe place, for them and trick-or-treaters
Teach your children to tell you or a trusted adult if they see anything weird or unusual. Teach them to say NO and GET AWAY from any person or situation that makes them feel scared, uncomfortable, or confused …even if it means yelling, kicking, attracting attention, teach them to resist any way they can.
REMIND YOUR CHILDREN:
NEVER enter a stranger’s home
NEVER accept rides from strangers
Stick with your family/friend group
Walk, Don’t Run
Stay on sidewalks, avoid shortcuts, and dark alleys
Only cross streets at corners and cross walks
Don’t eat any candy until it’s been checked
