It really does take a village to support a recovery journey, and Recovery Communities of New Mexico has helped communities across our state do exactly that. Since 2014, RCoNM has helped bring people together around Recovery Month so local communities can celebrate publicly and make support easier to find. Every September, those events give people in recovery a place to share and participate in that process. We are grateful for the work RCoNM does to help communities organize and keep recovery connected to the places people already call home. Thank you for another incredible Recovery Month across New Mexico.

Mental Health First Aid USA is coming to Kirtland Air Force Base on October 28 from 8 a.m.–5 p.m. This free, in-person course teaches participants how to recognize when someone may be experiencing a mental health challenge and how to respond in a supportive way. The course is open to New Mexico residents, but participants must already have their own access to Kirtland Air Force Base, as event organizers cannot provide guest sponsorship. Course materials are provided, and attendees should plan to bring their own lunch. This training is offered through a collaboration of statewide behavioral health and su***de prevention partners, including the New Mexico Coalition for Su***de Prevention and Awareness, the New Mexico Peer Coalition , Presbyterian Healthcare Services Jobs , and the New Mexico Health Care Authority . Please contact Wendy Linebrink-Allison at (505) 456‑2866 for more information.

Data from the New Mexico Department of Health Epidemiology team shows a 19% decrease in su***de from 2024 to 2025. While one year of data doesn't mean the work is finished, and no single effort can explain a change like this, movement in this direction is significant. Across New Mexico, people are having more conversations about mental health, and communities are working every day to make support easier to reach. For peers, it is another reminder that showing up for one person at a time can be part of something much bigger.
