Being prepared for emergencies saves lives, which is why we partner with Providence to ensure our clients are safe when disaster strikes. Many clients were donated a Providence emergency kit which contains water, a food ration, an emergency blanket, a survival blanket, a poncho, and flashlight.

Meals on Wheels West thanks Providence and the Saint Johns Health Center Foundation for continuing to support our community.

Daniel, 70, has lived in Santa Monica his whole life. He grew up playing baseball, from little league to SaMoHi, and when he picks up a glove today, he’s a kid again.

After decades in the cement industry, Daniel lives with a heart condition and a bad ankle. For years, he was in denial about needing help. It wasn’t until he started skipping meals that he reached out, and his doctor helped enroll him with Meals on Wheels West.

Now he knows he can count on our volunteers to show up throughout the week. On a low income, every meal matters.

This Tackling Hunger Month, you can be the reason someone like Daniel is noticed. đź’›

Meet Irene. 🧡

Irene is 85 and lives in Marina del Rey. She spent more than two decades as a dental assistant, used to love playing tennis, and now loves to paint. She’s been enrolled with Meals on Wheels West since 2021, when a fractured arm made it hard to prepare food.

“It was a blessing to be able to have food delivered to me when I only had use of one arm.”

Irene also treasures the volunteers who bring her meals: “I always tell them they are doing a great service. I feel very grateful for them and the organization.”

October is Tackling Hunger Month. Last year, we delivered 69,319 meals to neighbors like Irene, each with a knock from a volunteer who checks in. Will you help put a meal on the table for a neighbor like Irene this month?

JOIN US SUNDAY, OCT 11th from 12-5pm, for Continuum: Honoring Belmar History & Black Santa Monica at Historic Belmar Park.

This free, all-ages cultural activation will highlight Belmar's history and the Black experience in Santa Monica, celebrating the contributions of Black residents and visitors while acknowledging the historic loss of land, homes, and businesses in the area. The event will include conversations with award-winning journalist, radio host, and podcaster Sam Sanders, DJs, live music performances, a vendor village curated by Black Market Flea, art installation, and more.

Visit the festival's "Give Someone Their Flowers" Bloom Bar and make a mini-bouquet for a Santa Monica elder, through our partners Memories & Movement, a local Black seniors group, and Meals on Wheels West, who deliver nutritious food to homebound seniors, and help older adults feel remembered and valued by their local community.

The average cost of a gallon of gas in LA County just crossed $6.394, less than 10 cents off its record-high.

Meals on Wheels West relies on volunteers to deliver meals and wellness checks to our community. We are grateful that in the midst of these historic prices, our volunteer team continues to go above and beyond delivering life-saving meals to our community. The current cost of fuel also makes increasing our volunteer team a priority.

If you or someone you know has a couple of hours during the week, we are always in need of new volunteers to help us deliver meals. Visit mealsonwheelswest.org/volunteer to get started.
