💚 VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT: HABITAT HERO KEITH SHIVES! 🏠

Meet Keith Shives, owner of Sea Side Maintenance and one of our incredible core volunteers! We’re so blessed to have such a skilled carpenter and handyman on our team, and we couldn’t be more grateful for his time, talent, and dedication. 💪

Keith first connected with Habitat Walton at our Business After Hours last year, offering his skills to help build homes for local families. Since then, he’s been a steady set of helping hands on our job sites, often squeezing us into his busy maintenance schedule before heading off to work. His hard work, can-do attitude, and willingness to jump in wherever needed help keep our builds moving forward!

🔨 Want to be like Keith? Join us THIS Saturday for our General Build Day ! We welcome volunteers in construction, at the ReStore, at events, in the office, and more. 📧 Email [email protected] to get involved!

For 30 years, Habitat Walton is not just building homes, we are changing lives!

It was a pleasure to welcome CRA Director Chris to Vann Avenue and show him the neighborhood taking shape with support from the City of DeFuniak Springs Community Redevelopment Agency. 🏡💙

This will be our second Habitat neighborhood, and a place for nine hardworking local families to own a home and put down roots in the community they already call home. Their homeownership will also add to the city’s property tax base.

A BIG thank you to Chris and the CRA board for investing in true workforce housing and helping make these families’ dreams possible! 🔨

💚 THE POWER OF COMMUNITY 🔦

When Hurricane Isaias swept through our community last week, two of Habitat Walton’s newest homeowners, DK and Jycara, found comfort, connection 🔌 and the true meaning of community 🤝 in the midst of the storm.

When DK’s family lost power, Jycara welcomed them into her home. Together, the families sheltered in place, the kids played, and everyone gathered to watch TV. In the middle of a storm, two families found comfort, friendship and community under one roof. 🏡💙

We are incredibly proud to share that all 76 Habitat Walton homes (and all 9 under construction) came through Hurricane Isaias without any damage! Celebrating our 30th year and with our goal of 100 homes by 2030, we are not just building homes; we are changing lives.

At Habitat Walton, we believe a home should be more than affordable. It should provide a safe, stable foundation where families can build their futures with confidence. Through community partnerships, donated materials, volunteer labor and the dedication of our future homeowners, we are helping local families build not just a home, but a future.

And sometimes, that future looks like neighbors becoming friends, families helping one another through a storm, and children playing together while the wind blows outside. That’s the power of home. That’s the power of community. 🫶

Thank you to every donor, volunteer, sponsor and community partner who helps make safe, affordable homeownership possible in Walton County.

💪 Want to help build a stronger community? Volunteer, donate or shop at the Habitat ReStore. Every contribution helps local families build a brighter future.
