The Sonoma County Animal Shelter is committed to serving the public in the care and well being of animals, both domestic and livestock, throughout the unincorporated areas of Sonoma County, the city of Santa Rosa and the town of Windsor. The Shelter is operated by Sonoma County Animal Care and Control, a division of the Department of Health Services. The Shelter offers such diverse services as finding homes for adoptable animals, providing shelter for stray animals, offering assistance to owners and finders of lost animals, providing limited veterinary care, and maintaining pet licensing. In addition, the Shelter sponsors various community education and outreach programs throughout the year. The Shelter's field services include rescue and care of injured or distressed animals, rabies control, investigation of reports of animal abuse and neglect, and the enforcement of animal regulation laws and ordinances. In addition to its on-site and field personnel, the Shelter is assisted by the efforts of our volunteers who work with the animals in our care and participate in various education and fundraising programs.

🐾 Happy National Veterinary Technician Week! 🐾

You may not see them when you visit the shelter, and their work may not always be in the spotlight, but our RVTs show up day in and day out for the animals in our care.

So much of what they do happens behind the scenes, but their impact is immeasurable. ❤️

To our amazing RVTs: Thank you for your dedication, your hard work, and for always showing up for the animals who need you. We see you, we appreciate you, and we couldn’t do it without you! 💙🐾

🐾💙 Humphrey’s little outing was a big success! 💙🐾

This handsome boy was a very, very good boy on his recent adventure! 🥰 He got a bath, (not exactly his favorite thing in the world 😂, but he was a good sport and tolerated it like a champ.) Then it was time to stroll around town, meet lots of new friends, and even collect a few new admirers along the way! 😍

And honestly, how could anyone resist that face?! 🐶❤️

Humphrey has so much going for him. He’s handsome, he’s charming, and he’s ready to get out there and enjoy life with his people. He’s got it all… well, almost all.

The one thing missing? A home of his own. 🏡💔

Humphrey deserves a family to love him, adventures to share, and a cozy place to lay his head at the end of the day. Could you be the one to give this good boy his happily ever after? ❤️

October is Adopt a Shelter Dog Month, and we’re shining a light on the dogs who have spent the longest time with us.

For over 8 months each, they’ve watched other dogs come and go. They’ve learned the patterns of shelter life, made friends with staff and volunteers, had new adventures and kept showing up with the same hopeful wag.

Now it’s their turn for a home of their own. Every dog deserves a couch, a routine, and someone to call their very own person.

Please like and share to help these four pups.
