Caring for an aging parent is a family journey—and getting aligned with your siblings starts with an honest conversation.

Sharing responsibilities, recognizing each other’s strengths, and offering specific support can help everyone feel more supported while keeping your parent’s needs at the center.

A recent post on our website shares practical ways to start the conversation and create a caregiving plan together.

When a parent requires care later in life it can put a strain on sibling relationships and often an opportunity to create a family plan is missed. Advanced planning and having critical conversations before the need arises is the key to creating harmony later in your journey.

💜 Today was a beautiful reminder of why we do what we do. 💜

Aroha Memory Care was proud to be part of the Sonoma County Walk to End Alzheimer’s today at Sonoma State University- and what an incredible morning of connection, hope and community it was.

We were especially grateful to share the day with one of our Aroha community members and her partner, along with family members and friends from our community who came out to walk, support and stand alongside the millions of families whose lives have been touched by Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia.

For Aroha owner Raj and his family, it was truly a family affair. His wife, daughters, mom and dad all joined us—three generations coming together for a cause that is at the very heart of the work we do every day. 💚

We were also moved to hear KRON 4’s Grant Lodes share his own personal connection to Alzheimer’s through his grandmother- a reminder that this disease reaches into so many families and that none of us walks this road alone.

At Aroha, memory care is about so much more than a diagnosis. It’s about the person. It’s about connection, dignity, purpose, laughter, family and continuing to create meaningful moments together.

Today, we walked for our residents. We walked for their families. We walked for those we’ve lost, those who are living with this disease today, and for the hope of a future without Alzheimer’s. 💜

Until that day, we keep showing up. Together.

We celebrated Mexican Independence Day at Aroha with plenty of color, creativity, laughter, and some VERY impressive floral fashion! 😂🌸

Moments like these are about so much more than making something beautiful-they’re about creating together, connecting with one another, and most importantly, having FUN. ❤️

Joy blooms here. 🌺

At the Senior Living Innovation Forum, Dr. Raj Kalra shared the personal and professional journey that inspired him to rethink memory care from the ground up.

His presentation explores a different approach—one that brings evidence-based medicine, dentistry, design, technology, and caregiving together with one goal: helping people not simply live longer, but live better.

“Wellness is not just about helping people survive. It’s about helping people live.”

How Technology Can Help Us Live Better As We Age

When many people hear the word “technology,” they think of smartphones, computers, or complicated devices. But today’s technology is becoming much simpler — and much more meaningful. Used thoughtfully, it can help older adults stay healthier, safer, more connected, and independent while giving families greater peace of mind.

At Aroha Memory Care, we believe the future of senior living lies in combining innovation with person-centered care. Technology should quietly work in the background — making life safer, easier, and healthier — while allowing caregivers to spend more time building relationships and supporting each individual’s unique needs.

Because ultimately, successful aging isn’t simply about living longer. It’s about living well.

We’re proud to support the Alzheimer’s Association and invite our community to join us on October 3rd for the 2026 Walk to End Alzheimer’s® – Sonoma-Marin.

The Walk to End Alzheimer’s is the world’s largest event dedicated to raising awareness and funds for Alzheimer’s care, support, and research. Held each year in hundreds of communities across the country, the event brings together families, caregivers, advocates, and organizations committed to a future without Alzheimer’s and other dementias.

At Aroha Memory Care, this mission is deeply personal. Dr. Raj Kalra serves as Chair of the Executive Leadership Team for the Alzheimer’s Association, and our support reflects our strong belief in the organization’s work and the importance of advancing education, resources, research, and support for families affected by memory loss.
