🚁 Henry-1 Assists in Hiker Rescue on Cavedale Road

Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office helicopter Henry-1 assisted in the rescue of an injured hiker on a single-track trail off Cavedale Road.

Sonoma Valley Fire District personnel located the patient on the single-track trail, approximately 250 feet down a steep ravine from the roadway. Due to the challenging terrain, the Henry-1 tactical flight officer was inserted to the patient using the helicopter’s 200-foot long-line system.

The patient and a firefighter were then safely extricated via long line to an awaiting ambulance on Cavedale Road.

Great coordination between Sonoma Valley Fire and the Henry-1 crew to safely complete this technical rescue. 🚁👏

Bomb Squad Safely Resolves Hazardous Chemical Incident at Santa Rosa Junior College

Earlier today, our Bomb Squad responded to Santa Rosa Junior College after a chemical mixture of concern was discovered in a lab at the Lindley Center for STEM Education. Using the Bomb Squad robot, deputies safely transported the mixture from the lab to an open area away from the building, where it was rendered safe.

Bomb Squad deputies complete an initial six-week training program, followed by an additional five weeks of training to become certified bomb technicians. They are on call 24/7 to respond to calls involving potentially hazardous materials and suspicious or dangerous devices in Sonoma County and neighboring counties.

Thank you to the Santa Rosa Junior College Police Department for quickly notifying us of the situation and allowing our team to help safely resolve the incident.

🚁 Not every rescue requires a longline!

Today, October 11, at approximately 11:40 a.m., Sonoma County Sheriff’s Helicopter Henry-1 was requested by Napa County Fire / CAL FIRE to assist with the rescue of an injured mountain biker in Skyline Wilderness Park in Napa County.
Fortunately, this rescue didn’t require any ropes or specialized rescue devices. Henry-1 was able to locate a suitable landing area near the injured rider, allowing the crew to land and access the patient directly.

CAL FIRE personnel had already made their way up the trail to reach the injured mountain biker. Working alongside Henry-1’s flight paramedic, firefighters provided medical care and prepared the patient for evacuation.

Once secured aboard Henry-1, the patient was flown a short distance to the park’s parking lot, where an AMR Napa ambulance was waiting to transport him to a local hospital for further treatment.

While Henry-1 is frequently called upon for technical rescues involving longlines and difficult terrain, sometimes the safest and most efficient solution is simply finding a place to land.
Another great example of coordination between air and ground resources, with Napa County Fire / CAL FIRE, AMR Napa, and Henry-1 working together to get an injured patient the care he needed.

Happy Walk & Roll to School Day!

Our deputies had a great time joining students and families this morning as they walked, biked, and rolled their way to school.

We love opportunities like this to spend time with the kids and families we serve, and encourage safe ways to get around our communities.

Did you know? About 29% of trips in Sonoma County are less than two miles — a distance the average rider can cover by bike in about 12 minutes. 🚲

Walk & Roll to School Day is a fun reminder that, when it’s safe to do so, sometimes getting where you’re going can start with two feet — or two wheels.

Thanks to everyone who rolled with us today!
