With the support of the Sarasota Police Foundation, we had the honor of welcoming back our Sarasota Police Department Legacy members for the Fall Luncheon and to announce new Legacy Ring of Honor recipients. These men and women who served as officers and professional staff continue to contribute to our agency and community mentoring the next generation.

We're proud to shine the spotlight on Legacy Ring of Honor Recipients retired Lieutenant Norm Stockton and Jeff Dunn.

Lt. Stockton served the Sarasota Police Department from 1979-2010, later returning as a Background Investigator and Recruiter from 2012–2014. He mentors SPD recruits and participates in our trainings about ethics, professionalism, leadership, and community policing.

During Dunn's tenure at SPD, he mentored and trained numerous new officers, serving as a role model for professionalism, leadership, and community service. He continues to support the SPD K9 Unit by providing valuable expertise in K9 training, deployments, operations, certifications, and unit development.

For their continued commitment to SPD, we are proud to induct them both into the Legacy Ring of Honor at the upcoming SRQ Blue & White Gala on Jan. 30.

Our Station 5-0 Team may not have taken home any awards or the People’s Choice Award, but our officers noticed plenty of people coming back for seconds and thirds of our famous chili! 😊

Awards aside, our officers had a great time connecting with our community at the 2026 SFFBF 26th Annual Morton's Firehouse Chili Cook-Off on Sunday.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by our booth to say hello. It was great seeing so many familiar faces, and we’re already looking forward to 2027!

What a beautiful start to our Friday morning! One of our officers snapped this photo along the John Ringling Causeway after his shift.

A few reminders as you head into the weekend and some more rain is still expected:

☔ Avoid standing water. You can lose control or hydroplane. Don’t drive through flooded roads. Turn around if water covers the road.

☔ Slow down. Wet roads can make it harder to stop. Leave extra space between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of you.

☔ Wipers on = headlights on. Help others see you. Put the phone down and keep your full attention on the road.

Allow plenty of travel time, buckle up and stay safe. We’re here for you, day or night, rain or shine. 🚔
