๐ Floridaโs Hidden October Harvest: Persimmons! ๐
Who says Florida doesnโt have fall color? As the days shorten and Halloween approaches, persimmon trees can brighten up the local landscape. Their leaves drop away to reveal branches glowing with bright orange fruit, like a tree full of tiny pumpkins.
๐ Whether you prefer the Florida-native American persimmon, beloved by wildlife and, when picked ripe, a great fruit, or the Asian varieties prized for their cultivated honey-sweet flavor, these trees add seasonal cheer and edible beauty to your garden. Tough, compact in our region, and Florida-friendly, persimmons make excellent foodscape trees for the Suncoast, perfect for both people and pollinators. We see the native varieties fruiting along our waterways this time of year.
