Today, we pause to remember the courage and sacrifice of those who took part in D-Day on June 6, 1944. From the airborne troops who secured key positions behind enemy lines to the forces who stormed the beaches of Normandy, their bravery helped change the course of history and forge a path to freedom and peace. Let us honor their legacy and cherish the freedoms they fought for.

A brush fire within the Stoneybrook Subdivision in Venice threatened homes and forced evacuations early Friday afternoon.
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office, Florida Forestry Service, Sarasota County Fire Department, Englewood Fire Department, Venice Fire Department, and Nokomis Volunteer Fire Department all responded to combat the blaze.
As a precaution SCSO deputies worked to evacuate homes in harm’s way, while fire crews set up defensive positions to protect the structures.

🚔✨ Throwback to the late '80s when our deputies stood proudly in front of the iconic Sarasota Square Mall! It was a different time when patrol cars were running on propane and the one light on top of the vehicle resembled a bubble!
As we watch the mall and our community transforming today, it's a reminder of how much Sarasota County has evolved over the past 40 years. Some of us remember lots of shopping trips and movie nights at this very spot! 🌟🛍️
