Here's something that might surprise you about teens in foster care: When you give them a gift, many of them immediately think about who else they can share it with.

At a recent Children's Guardian Fund holiday event, teens in foster care received gift cards. When asked how they'd use them, response after response said the same thing: "I want to buy gifts for my family." "I'm getting something for my little brother." "I want to get my mom something nice."
These young people have faced circumstances most adults would struggle with. And yet, their instinct is generosity.

The 2026 Giving Challenge is happening soon. It's the 10th year of this 24-hour giving event, and The Patterson Foundation is matching every donation of $25–$100 to participating nonprofits, dollar-for-dollar. Over the past nine Giving Challenges, our community has raised $92 million.
