"Rooftop solar and battery storage systems are often treated as private investments. Collectively, however, they function as part of Florida's energy infrastructure."

In this Tampa Bay Times column, former FlaSEIA President Ben Millar says that solar and storage don't only help the homes and businesses that install them. On hot summer afternoons, thousands of systems working together lower the grid's peak demand. That helps put off expensive infrastructure and holds costs down for every customer, including renters, apartment residents and small businesses.

As Ben puts it: "Solar provides Florida with a domestic energy resource whose fuel cost never changes."

They also help diversify the state’s energy mix.
