A National Historic Landmark, the fort is one of only eight Second System fortifications (a series of brick masonry forts built prior to the War of 1812) still standing in the United States. Join thousands of visitors who enjoy the fort every year, and experience military exhibits, daily musket and cannon firing history presentations year round, and a serene environment with a great view of the Savannah River.

Old Fort Jackson is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., with cannon firings at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Come see us!

Just because your ticket says 1 PM doesn’t mean you have to miss three hours of magical mischief. Gates open at 11 AM so you can enjoy all the festivities before your ride: potions classes, a teddy bear hospital, reptiles, owls, Kwidditch, charms, quill writing, whale wizards, model trains, food trucks, fortune telling, wand-making…..

⚗️ Practicing potions experiments because things are about to get a little magical in the Blacksmith Shop at Frogwarts!

At FROGWARTS in Savannah on Sunday, Oct. 25th, watch museum educators Mr. Jamal and Mr. Ian team up with Coastal Heritage Society volunteer and Richmond Hill Elementary School teacher Robert Covino for spellbinding potion experiments featuring bubbling wish bubbles, disappearing ink, fast fog and even a growing magical hand!

Potions classes are at 12:15, 1:15 and 2 PM, with the first two classes immediately following a special concert by students with Garrison Voices from Esther F. Garrison School for the Arts.

Join us for a little science and lots of surprises at Frogwarts: A Magical Adventure!

All six Coastal Heritage Society sites will be open today, Monday October 12th.

Highlights:

*a special open day at Pin Point Heritage Museum from 10AM–2PM. Tours at 10:30AM, 11:30AM and 12:30PM.

*train rides on the hour from 10AM–3PM at Georgia State Railroad Museum

*a special open day at Savannah Children's Museum, 9AM-3PM

All other CHS sites will be open during regular hours:

Savannah History Museum: 9AM to 4PM
*Explore the new Loyalists & Liberty exhibition

Old Fort Jackson: 9AM to 4PM
*Cannon firings at 11AM and 2PM

A reminder to join us this Friday, October 9th at 9 a.m. for our annual commemoration of the Battle of Savannah.

We will gather in the parking lot of Savannah History Museum and march to nearby Battlefield Memorial Park just like those brave Americans did in 1779.

Our Coastal Heritage Society historical interpreters took “Life of a Soldier” into the classroom Wednesday, giving students at The STEM Academy at Bartlett a hands-on look at the daily routines, skills and historic conflicts connected to Old Fort Jackson in Savannah.

We love bringing Savannah’s history to life in local classrooms. Thank you, Savannah-Chatham County Public School System, for having us!

Want to learn more about Savannah’s role in the nation’s history? Join us this Friday, Oct. 9, for Coastal Heritage Society’s annual Battlefield Memorial March.

As part of the America 250 commemoration, we’ll retrace the footsteps of soldiers from Savannah History Museum to Battlefield Memorial Park, where we’ll conclude with a wreath-laying and remembrance ceremony honoring those who fought in the 1779 Battle of Savannah.

The free, public event begins promptly at 9 a.m. Gather at 8:45 a.m. in the Savannah History Museum parking lot, 303 MLK Jr. Blvd. The event is free, but please RSVP in advance here: bit.ly/BattlefieldMemorialMarch26

Coastal Heritage Society’s annual Battlefield Memorial March is this Friday, October 9.

As part of the nationwide America 250 commemoration, we invite the community to honor those who fought in the 1779 Battle of Savannah, one of the Revolutionary War’s most pivotal conflicts, where approximately 800 troops were killed or wounded.

It is our privilege each year to remember their sacrifice and reflect on Savannah’s enduring role in our nation’s founding.

The free, public event begins promptly at 9 a.m. Guests are asked to gather at 8:45 a.m. in the parking lot of Savannah History Museum, 303 MLK Jr. Blvd., Savannah.

Together, we will retrace the footsteps of soldiers down West Boundary Street and along Louisville Road, ending at Battlefield Memorial Park for a wreath-laying and remembrance ceremony.

The event is free, but please RSVP in advance via link in comments.
