Isle of Hope Volunteer Fire Department spent this weekend pump testing our trucks. This is where we push our trucks through an evolution meant to ensure that each of our 5 water capable apparatuses is able to respond and provide water at a fire scene ππ§πΌβππͺβοΈπ

If you heard loud banging last night throughout the Island it was our firefighters hard at workπͺ Firefighters were led through a forced entry training by our Assistant Chief Robert Smith using one very heavy, very strong, reinforced entry door prop. This is where firefighters practice breaching locked or otherwise inoperable doors using tools like axes and a Halligan. This type of training insures our firefighters have hands on experience gaining entry to even the toughest of spaces. Interested in learning how to smash through doors to help your community? Come out on Monday nights at 7:30 to see if joining our fire station is right for you ππͺβοΈπ§βππ©βππ¨βππ

Here is an update for anyone that could not make the meeting last night. Right now there is a contract between Chatham County and Isle of Hope Volunteer Fire Department that will keep fire services on the island. This contract will hopefully be approved by the County Commissioners at the vote on Friday Morning. There is still work to do but this will allow our department time to work with Chatham County Commissioners to craft a permanent plan. But this is an annual contract with a 3 year renewal option.

Yesterday the Isle of Hope Volunteer Fire Department spent the evening training on Ladder deployment and safety. This is vital training for use in our community. As a mainly residential and historical community most the buildings are of a height that makes them ideal for ladder usage. Ladders allow for additional methods of entering and exiting a structure, allow for firefighters to undertake rescue operations and can also be used to take water and resources right to the fire. π₯ πππ¨
