Founded 1853, the Catholic Cemetery is one of Savannah's most beautiful historic cemeteries, and often undiscovered by locals & the visitor.

Discovered this extremely rare postcard of the "Cathedral Cemetery" this week and wanted to share. Most notable is the no longer standing funeral chapel at the end of the road where I'd estimate the Kehoe plot partly stands now. Anyone know the date on it or have other images or information? When it was torn down?

Savannah says "Adieu" and Bonaventure says, "Bienvenue à la Maison" to a fascinating woman and Lowcountry spirit, Diane "Dee" Sutlive. She made such a mark on Savannah with her early clothing shop at The Desoto Hotel, later running La Lingerie of NYC, and while heading Ungaro's North American operations, personally styled the likes of Jackie O and John Lennon. Before retiring home to Savannah, Dee acted as the main buyer for French fashion legend, Sonia Rykiel. When returning home in 1992, she opened the highly lauded decorative arts boutique, Portico & Co. Never one to slow down, Dee worked tirelessly to develop the exquisite retail shop for The Owens-Thomas Museum House and brought much attention to enhancing The Byrd Cookie retail store with a highly personal involvement with securing The Byrd Cookie "Midnight In The Garden of Good and Evil" cookie tin. Dee took brief hiatus from Savannah in Atlanta with Donald Pliner and nearly made a second home for years in Charleston, SC running the ever-popular RTW women's store on King Street. In spite of life as a "citizen of the world," at the end of the day, she was a Savannah girl who came home to where it all began. Dee was incredibly relatable and down-to-earth, never meeting a stranger, and was fascinated with the world around her, and the people she met, and made an entire life of pouring her love for all into creative sanctuaries as kinds of devotionals to everything. She will never be forgotten!

Amanda Ferneau (1983-2023) My Immortal Beloved, organized by Mark Ferneau 01/05/2023

The world lost a really special friend of Savannah cemeteries this week, Amanda Ferneau. She was obsessed with poet Conrad Aiken, and Bonaventure in particular as a whole. Amanda leaves behind her beautiful 7-year-old son, Roman, and husband of 10 years, Mark. All of whom I had the honor of celebrating their 10-year wedding anniversary with in Bonaventure only a few months ago. They all just moved to Savannah, with their dog, Bear, to start a grand new adventure. Now tragically in limbo. Please consider helping them cover Amanda's cremation and other challenging family expenses? We thank you and God Bless!

Kelsey McGee has been a daily walker in The Catholic Cemetery for many years, where together we've picked up debris, replaced flags or put them back up and guarded the place against vandals and questionable trespassers day and night. Its what good stewards do! Now, please help Kelsey walk the place once more unaided! She's so close!

Kelsey McGee's Cemetery Romp-Again Fundraiser, organized by Shannon Scott 12/25/2021

Every storyteller has a partner. Mine has been Kelsey McGee. Her favorite word really is a toss-up between "cemetery" and "beach." She's been with me for almost the entire history of what we've built. My Christmas wish is for her to walk again and its actually so close to happening but am asking my fans or her's or total strangers to read her story and become part of the next chapters! Certain donation levels mean you'll never have to buy a Bonaventure Tour ticket again with a Lifetime Pass! Thank you and Merry Christmas to everyone!
