Proposed Mural at Lincoln and E Broughton
DNA REVISED POSITION
The Historic Site and Monument Commission will hear a proposal to paint a mural on the west-facing wall of the Funky Brunch restaurant. The hearing will be held next Thursday Feb 5th, at 4:00 PM at 112 E State Street.
WOW!!!! Based upon the almost immediate feedback that I am receiving from a broad swath of DNA membership, it would appear that I had misjudged the sentiment of our constituency.
Therefore, DNA will be taking an opposing stance on this mural.
The predominant objections are that the proposed mural does not reflect the Revolutionary War theme so dominant in the Northeast Wards. Further, it shows the figure on top of the Forsyth Fountain with a flowing cocktail glass when we just experienced an intoxicated driver recklessly wreck their car just down the street.
I still encourage members to personally attend the hearing or send an email to the Commission with your thoughts. In the past, public response to these hearings (especially from close-by neighbors in the adjacent wards) has impacted board decisions. Emails may be sent to: [email protected] To arrive in time for consideration, they should be sent by February 3rd.

Fellow DNA Members…..
HDBR Hearing Regarding 3 West Perry Street
Amendment/Correction: In a recent newsletter we referred to a request by Whitfield Signs on behalf of Southern Belle for approval of signs at 3 West Perry Street.
We described it as a request for a variance, but the request was actually for a Certificate of Appropriateness from the Historic District Board of Review.
The original application referenced illuminated signs, but Southern Belle is now not pursuing illuminated signage.
Also, Southern Belle has concluded that the existing illuminated window signs do not require a permit, and those signs are therefore not being considered as part of the application.
Finally, the current agenda for the Historic District Board of Review for August 13th shows this application as being continued, so it therefore appears that it will be considered at a later date.
We apologize for any confusion.
Respectfully,
Paul Cobet, President
