The Chatham County Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding nearly $100-thousand dollars’ worth of items stolen from a storage unit in September.

On September 1, 2025, Chatham County Police Department officers responded to the Extra Space Storage facility located at 330 Johnny Mercer Blvd. for a report of a burglary. A unit had been burglarized, and nearly $100-thousand dollars’ worth of art, musical instruments, and household items had been stolen. The stolen items included three paintings worth nearly $10-thousand dollars each. You see photos and descriptions of the paintings here.

In December 2025, Chatham County Police Department detectives arrested 31-year-old Hunter Dempsey and charged him in connection with this – and other – storage facility thefts. But detectives have been unable to locate all of the stolen items – including the paintings. Detectives are hopeful that someone may have information that will lead them to the stolen belongings.

But, for anyone who is new to the area -- or, is just discovering the joys of boating -- we want to pass along some very important safety information from the Chatham County Police Department Marine Patrol:

🛟Remember, anyone born after 1997 must pass the Georgia Boater Safety Course before they can operate any power vessel or personal watercraft in our state.

🛟There must be one life jacket per person on board your vessel, and children under 13 must wear them. We suggest bright colors so they are easily spotted in an emergency.

🛟It is unlawful to operate a boat if you are under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

🛟Make sure your boat is up to date on its maintenance before you leave the dock.

🛟Have a float plan, and make sure someone on land knows where you're going, the route you plan to take, and when to expect you back.

🛟If you are boating at night, your vessel must be equipped with working lights.

🛟If you get into trouble or are lost, don't wait until it is getting dark to call for help. You're going to be much easier to find and rescue while we still have daylight on our side.

The Chatham County Police Department Marine Patrol will be out in full force this holiday weekend. We want everyone to be safe and have fun. But if you need us, we'll be ready!

Congratulations to our Sergeant Antonio Solomon on his graduation today from Columbus State University’s Command College!

Sgt. Solomon earned his Masters of Public Administration from the program established to educate professional law enforcement leaders in Georgia. As you can see, his family was on hand to celebrate this important academic and career milestone.

The Chatham County Police Department pays for our officers to attend the program as a way of investing in their futures. But this also pays off for the department and the people we serve by equipping our leaders with advanced academic knowledge that is put to practical use every day when they report for duty.

We appreciate Sgt. Solomon's dedication to juggling police work, family, and academics to achieve this goal. We're looking forward to his continued leadership in our department and hope you'll join us in congratulating him and his family!

The Chatham County Police Department is investigating a shooting that happened last night at a Georgetown apartment complex.

On Thursday, May 14, 2026, shortly after 9:30 p.m., Chatham County Police Department officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Prince Royal Lane for a report of a shooting. Officers located a 17-year-old male with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds. The victim was transported to the hospital.

Chatham County Police Department officers and detectives secured evidence at the scene and conducted interviews. No arrest has been made at this time, and the investigation is ongoing and very active.

Police Memorial Day is the most somber day of the year for those who wear the badge.

Today, we remember the men and women who put on their uniform, went to work, and never came home.

This memorial outside of our headquarters is a daily reminder of the Chatham County Police Department officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in their service to us.

We’re searching for 17 y/o Delilah White. She’s 5’2”, 100 lbs. This is the third time she’s been reported as a runaway since 4/24/26. She’s possibly wearing black pants and a black shirt. Call police with information.

The Chatham County Police Department is working to locate a suspect in connection with a financial card transaction fraud case.

This photo was taken by security cameras at a bank in Augusta on April 29, 2026, as the unidentified suspect tried to withdraw funds from the victim’s account.
