New SAFE Shelter Board Member Spotlight! 🌟

Kyle Gallenstein is a Savannah-based attorney who brings over a decade of public service to SAFE Shelter’s Board of Directors with a strong litigation background representing survivors of domestic violence and other crimes. Kyle joined the Georgia Legal Services Program in 2019. He is a Supervising Attorney in GLSP’s Savannah Regional Office with much of his focus on domestic relations, elder law, and consumer matters.

Prior to Georgia Legal Services Program, Kyle served as a Staff Attorney and Domestic Violence Clinic Supervisor with Legal Aid Society of Southwest Ohio. Kyle also currently serves on multiple family violence task forces in Coastal and Middle Georgia.

Some conversations feel heavy because the reality behind them is heavy ⚠️ In this powerful Savannah Spotlight moment, Daisy Hernandez talks about the increasing need for domestic violence services and why these conversations cannot continue to stay hidden or avoided. Through Safe Shelter, survivors receive emergency shelter, counseling, case management, and long-term support during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. While domestic violence may be uncomfortable to discuss, silence only creates more isolation for survivors who already feel trapped. Awareness, education, and community support are critical in helping people access safety and resources sooner. SAFE Shelter's was an honoree for Savannah Interagency Diversity Council (SIDC), for our partnership and participation in the Savannah Traffick Jam. The award was giving to show their appreciation for our wonderful dedication and important support to the SIDC for helping them continue the fight against human trafficking and provide awareness to residence of Savannah, surrounding areas and across the state of Georgia.

Zach Gilstrap is the President and Owner of College H.U.N.K.S. Moving & College H.U.N.K.S. Hauling Junk, serving the Savannah, Hilton Head, Brunswick, and St. Simons Island markets with global logistics capabilities. With over a decade of experience across international, national, and local supply chains, Zach specializes in end-to-end transportation solutions spanning truck, vessel, and air, as well as strategic warehousing, international trade, and custom logistics design.

He is known for building efficient, scalable, supply chain solutions that prioritize transparency, technology, and most importantly, human relationships. Zach’s background began in the public sector, including service as a police officer in central Illinois, and continues through his involvement in emergency management and humanitarian logistics operations.

Outside of work, he enjoys fishing and exploring local coastal spots.

We’re so grateful to the Downtown Neighborhood Association of Savannah for awarding SAFE Shelter a $4,000 grant through the Holiday Tour of Homes program.

This generous support will help fund Camp R.O.C.K., our 9-week summer camp program for children impacted by domestic violence—creating space for healing, creativity, and joy.

We're on the hunt for 20 tasty lunches for each day of camp Monday - Friday, June 1st - July 24th! Think of it like packing a picnic for some awesome campers — each lunch should include a main entrée (with a backup option or two), some yummy sides, and a drink to keep everyone refreshed. For example: Sandwich or Lunchables, chips, cookies, and a Capri Sun — simple, fun, and kid-approved!

We are also seeking gift cards to help us purchase ready-to-serve meals—like pizza, sandwiches, and more—from places such as Kroger, Publix, Walmart, and local restaurants.

Every day is available except for July 17th and 24th.
