Reconnecting with intentions once rooted in peace and honoring those who set them 🧡
Today is Indigenous Peoples’ Day, a time to reflect on and reaffirm the values our region upheld long before Schenectady was founded. In 1661, three Mohawk chiefs, Cantuquo, Sonareetsie, and Aidane, sold the great flat that would become the community we care for and cherish today. Schenectady was founded as a vital point of contact between the Haudenosaunee and European worlds. Though the intentions of peace, solidarity, and opportunity were lost for centuries, they were not forgotten.
The Sycamore Collaborative honors Indigenous Peoples' Day in hopes of justice for the voices, stories, and traditions once left untold. May we continue to uphold and discover the truly deep roots in the land where we live and serve, today and in the days ahead.
