October is Fire prevention month so we’ve been busy visiting the local schools, daycares, and social activities doing presentations. We also have our annual fire prevention poster contest! Below are pics of some of the contest winners from our local schools. The division winner’s posters will be advancing to the county contest! Congrats to all the winners and a big “thank you” to all of the youth that entered posters!

10/15 14:37 Tones for a grass fire north west of town off FM 3171 started by a controlled burn.

Another busy day for SVFD. Luckily our presentation at St Rose was finished before the tones started going off. Tomorrow is supposed to be a “High Risk for Fire” day as we are expected to have very strong winds at 30 to 40 mph. If you have fires you burned this week please check to make sure they are cooled and not at risk of rekindle! PLEASE refrain from starting any new fires tomorrow!

The SVFD was at St. Rose school today for our annual fire prevention visit. We educated the kids on fire safety and fire prevention they can all practice at home. Our members showed the bunker gear we wear to keep us safe while fighting fires. They also informed them of the procedures we do during rescue calls. The kiddos were able to try on our gear, spray water, and climb inside our trucks! We couldn’t forget about the 8th grade victory lap! Another awesome visit! Thanks to firefighters: Caleb Geissen, Raymond Shimek, Drew Brossmann, Slade Kusy, Paul Zapalac, and Doran Proske. We also had some special guests from Fayette County EMS join us, Jason Rowley, Alex Moniz, thanks for joining in and helping! 🔥 🔥 🔥 💦 💦 💦

Both fires were started by controlled burns that got away from the land owners. We are fortunate to have recently received some rain and finally have some moisture in the ground. However, the dry vegitation from the dry summer we had is still very prevalent. PLEASE use caution when burning. PLEASE stay attentive to the area surrounding your controlled burns. Make sure the grass around the area is cut short and you have tools or a water source nearby to assist if the fire starts to spread. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT leave your fires unattended while they are still active.

It’s Fire Prevention time again so we’ve been busy with getting things rolling for the schools with the annual poster contest and doing presentations. Last week was Ag Safety Day in La Grange. This morning SVFD visited Lil’ Einstein Learning Center in Schulenburg. We talked to the children about fire safety and were able to show them some of our equipment. We want to give a big “Thank You” for the gift box they sent home with us! It is very much appreciated! 🔥 🚒 👨‍🚒

Yesterday SVFD was invited to participate in the annual Fayette County Progressive Ag Safety Day in Fayette County at the Fairgrounds. We talked to students about safety precautions they can implement at home to prepare for emergencies. We also shared some of our equipment and the procedures we do when on scenes.
