The Scotia Fire Department is always looking for active volunteers. There is now an added benefit to volunteering: a tax credit! If you or anyone you know would like more information on how to join, please contact our Fire Chief or stop by the station anytime.

A new law we passed this year will increase the tax credits available for volunteer firefighters and ambulance workers to help bolster retention and recruitment.

In many of our small towns across the district, the volunteer FD’s firehouse is the meeting spot and gathering place.

We have more to do, but our volunteer firefighters answer the call day and night, and now we’re answering theirs.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

The Village of Scotia Fire Department stands in support of all the brave individuals, survivors, and families affected by breast cancer in our community and beyond. Throughout the month, we turn our thoughts toward awareness, early detection, and the ongoing fight for a cure.

Join us in honoring those we’ve lost, celebrating survivors, and supporting those currently fighting.

The Scotia Fire Department and IAFF Local #842 are proud to announce our department was officially awarded $56,400 through FEMA’s Assistance to Firefighters Grant (AFG) Program!

This grant delivers vital funding to advance the training and leadership of SFD members, covering certifications for:
• Incident Safety Officer to ensure 100% safety officer coverage at every incident.
• Fire Officer II, bringing 100% of our company officers to Fire Officer II certification.
• Fire Instructor II to elevate the safety, consistency, and quality of our in-house training.
• NYS Code Enforcement Official to strengthen fire prevention across our village.

Grant funding will also cover shift coverage while personnel participate in these courses, ensuring our crews remain fully staffed without any lapse in emergency protection.

A special shout-out to one of our own SFD officers, who wrote and prepared this grant application in-house, securing these critical federal funds without additional outside costs.

We extend our thanks to Mayor David Bucciferro and the Village Board of Trustees for committing to support this project. We also thank our federal delegation — U.S. Senator Chuck Schumer, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, and Congressman Paul D. Tonko — for their ongoing support of the FEMA AFG program and the Scotia Fire Department.

Thank you to our residents for your continued support as we work every day to keep our community safe!

May 15, 2026 is Peace Officers Memorial Day, the members of the Village of Scotia Fire Department pause to honor the law enforcement officers who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty, and to recognize all those who continue to serve and protect our communities each day.

As National Police Week ends, we want to thank the officers who answer the call at all hours, stand beside us during emergencies, and dedicate themselves to the safety of others.

The fire service and law enforcement share a bond built through service, sacrifice, and commitment to the communities we proudly protect together.

Please join us in remembering the fallen and supporting the men and women who continue to wear the badge with honor.

Happy to lend a hand to our brothers and sisters across the bridge.
