Fire Prevention Week 🔥

This year’s theme is “Charge Into Fire Safety™: Safe Charging Is a Superpower.”

As we rely more on devices powered by lithium-ion batteries - from phones and laptops to e-bikes and power tools - it’s important to practice safe charging habits to help prevent fires.

Here are a few quick tips to use your “charging superpower”:
-Use the Right Gear: Only use the charger and cord that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer. Off-brand chargers may not meet safety standards.
-Charge on Hard Surfaces: Always charge devices on a hard, flat surface like a table or desk. Avoid charging on beds, couches, or under pillows, where heat can get trapped.
-Unplug When Done: Once your device is fully charged, unplug it. Leaving it plugged in can put unnecessary stress on the battery and create extra heat.
-Charge Large Items Safely: Keep batteries for e-bikes, scooters, and power tools away from exits and in a safe, clear location.

Making these simple steps a regular habit can keep your family and home safer. Let's make this Fire Prevention Week count!

Public Education Month 🍎✏️

October is our public education month and we’re heading into local schools to teach students how to be fire-safe! 🚒🔥

We are excited to share important lessons with the next generation on how to stay safe, prevent accidents, and know exactly what to do in an emergency. From kitchen safety tips - like keeping cooking areas clear - to teaching kids how to spot potential hazards, we’re committed to building a safer, more prepared community together.

Parents, ask your kids what they learned this month! You might be surprised by how much they know about fire safety.

Scotts Valley Fire Protection District Appoints Alex Titus to Board of Directors

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. — August 17, 2026 — The Scotts Valley Fire Protection District has appointed Alex Titus to its Board of Directors, filling the seat left vacant by the resignation of Zach Raney.

Titus has lived in Scotts Valley with his wife, Elana, and their two children since 2014. He is employed by Microsoft as a senior business development manager and previously worked as a meteorologist. Titus earned his Master of Business Administration from Santa Clara University.

In addition to accepting the appointment, Titus has filed to serve a four-year term as one of two directors whose seats are up for election this fall. Because only two candidates filed for the two available seats, both candidates will be appointed in lieu of an election in November, in accordance with applicable election procedures.

“We are pleased to welcome Alex Titus to the Scotts Valley Fire Protection District Board of Directors,” said Board President Daron Pisciotta. “His professional experience in business and finance, strong community ties, and commitment to public service will be valuable assets as the District continues its work to provide exceptional emergency services and address the need for a safe, properly located fire station.”

Titus said he is honored to serve the residents of Scotts Valley and looks forward to supporting the Fire Protection District’s mission, including strengthening wildfire resilience and addressing the District’s fire station needs in a fiscally responsible manner.

Titus took the oath of office at the District’s August 12 Board meeting.
