Twas weeks before Halloween, the pumpkins were bright,
But Shop With a Cop planners were up late at night!
While others bought candy and costumes to wear,
We were counting donations and pulling out our hair!
The ghosts weren't yet hanging, the leaves hadn't dropped,
But Christmas planning simply could NOT be stopped!
The emails were flying, the phones ringing loud,
"We need more volunteers!" someone yelled to the crowd!
The spreadsheets were open, the lists growing long,
And someone was humming a Christmas song.
"It's only October!" one officer cried,
"Can we get through Halloween first?" another replied.
But the sponsors need calling, the letters need sent,
And we're already wondering where all the time went!
The Gering crew's busy, Scottsbluff's on the phone,
And somebody's asking, "Can we PLEASE just go home?"
We've got kids to nominate and shoppers to find,
And about fifty million details on everyone's mind!
The wrapping crew's waiting, the shopping carts too,
And we still have a mountain of planning to do!
The candy's not handed out, Thanksgiving's not here,
Yet we're planning the biggest shopping day of the year!
Our desks look like Christmas and Halloween collided,
And how we'll survive this has yet to be decided!
But beneath all the chaos, the laughter, the stress,
We know that this program is truly a blessing.
For the smiles on those faces make it all worthwhile,
Every phone call, each meeting, each mile.
So bring on the pumpkins, the ghosts, and the cheer,
We're planning for Christmas a little early this year!
December 5th is the date, and we're giving our all,
Because SHOP WITH A COP is worth every call!
Happy Hallo-Christmas from the Shop With a Cop planning crew! 🎃🎄🚓

**Operation FUR-ever Home!
She will be here from 9:00am-3:00pm if you want to visit her!

🐾Meet Quillow! 🐾

This sweet 3-year-old Lab came to PHS in heartbreaking condition after a painful encounter with a porcupine. Quillow was covered in quills, some lodged all the way into the back of her mouth. Her face was severely swollen, she was dehydrated, and she could barely eat or drink.

Quillow spent time at the vet having the quills carefully removed and getting the care she desperately needed.

Her swelling has gone down, she's feeling so much better, and her sweet personality is finally shining through! Despite everything she's endured, Quillow is an absolute sweetheart 💜 with so much love to give.

Quillow is now available for adoption! She will need to spend some time in foster care while she finishes recovering, but she's more than ready to start her next chapter with a family of her own.

After everything this sweet girl has been through, we would love nothing more than to see her healing in the comfort of a loving 💓 home.

She is available for adoption at the Panhandle Humane Society.

Fatal Vehicle-Pedestrian Accident Under Investigation

On October 9, 2026, at approximately 2125 hours, officers with the Scottsbluff Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of 23rd Street and Broadway in reference to a vehicle-pedestrian accident.

Upon arrival, officers located a male pedestrian lying in the southbound lanes of Broadway, with a pickup truck positioned just south of the pedestrian. The male was transported to Regional West Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The pedestrian was reportedly crossing Broadway within the crosswalk at the time of the collision.

Broadway was closed for approximately four hours while officers conducted an accident reconstruction and investigated the circumstances surrounding the collision.

The investigation remains ongoing. Authorities are examining potential contributing factors, including speed and distracted driving. Charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.

The identity of the deceased pedestrian will be released at a later time, pending notification of next of kin.
