Members of the Scranton Fire Department and Scranton Police Department were honored to attend the Career Technology Center of Lackawanna County’s annual remembrance luncheon yesterday. This year’s gathering marked the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001.

The luncheon was prepared and served by students in CTCLC’s Culinary Arts program. Their hard work, attention to detail, and hospitality made the event especially meaningful, and we sincerely thank them for the outstanding meal.

We are grateful for the invitation and the opportunity to gather with fellow first responders, CTCLC students and faculty, and members of our community to remember the lives lost, honor the bravery and sacrifice of those who responded that day, and reflect on the unity that followed.

This afternoon, members of the Scranton Fire Department family gathered at Station 4 to unveil a new flagpole, completed as the Eagle Scout project of Jack Polansky.

Jack, the son of House Captain Andy Polansky, completed the project in August. He developed the project plan, raised the necessary funds, and led a group of fellow Scouts in installing the flagpole. It now stands proudly outside Station 4, flying our nation’s colors. A commemorative plaque recognizes Jack’s hard work and the lasting contribution he has made to the station and the community.

Congratulations, Jack, and thank you for this meaningful gift. We are honored to have been part of this important milestone in your Scouting journey.

The Scranton Fire Department has added a high-water rescue vehicle to its emergency response fleet through a purchase from the United Fire Company in Montrose, PA.

This 1997 Stewart-Stevenson was built for difficult conditions, with the vehicle’s large wheels, high ground clearance, and raised air intake allowing it to navigate flooded and hard-to-reach areas. As part of our Water Rescue Team’s response, it will help firefighters reach people in locations that cannot be accessed by traditional fire apparatus.

Before being placed in service, the vehicle will be outfitted for department use and firefighters will receive specialized training.

On Monday, July 27th, Members of Rescue-1 and Truck-4, as well as Inspector-1, gave an equipment demonstration at the Scranton School District's Career Quest Summer Camp during their Civil Service day.

Students were given information regarding the career of a firefighter, as well as a rope rescue demonstration displaying mechanical advantages as they relate to S.T.E.M., where students were able to operate the rope system and see different pieces of equipment used in rescue operations.
