In today’s polarized climate, conversations often stall at the level of positions—what people believe—without exploring the deeper layers that shape those beliefs. This interactive workshop introduces The 3 Degrees of Why, a framework that helps participants move beyond surface disagreement to understand the reasoning, values, and stories that influence how people see the world. Through guided reflection and exercises, participants will explore how beliefs are formed, including the role of both lived experiences and the stories we encounter through the wider cultural and media landscape. By learning to recognize these deeper layers, participants will gain practical tools for engaging in difficult conversations with greater curiosity, discernment, and understanding.

Today is Ada Lovelace Day! Augusta Ada King, Countess of Lovelace (1815-1852), the daughter of poet Lord Byron and reformer Anne Isabella Milbanke, was a highly talented mathematician and collaborated with Charles Babbage on the analytical engine, the theoretical precursor to the modern computer. Because of her emphasis on the potential of computing devices beyond just crunching numbers and work on Note G (often called the first published computer program), she is considered to be the first computer programmer.

A group of Library employees attended the Pennsylvania Library Association Annual Conference this week. They presented sessions and posters, volunteered with special events, and joined their colleagues at the capitol to celebrate libraries across the commonwealth! They also celebrated the Association’s 125th anniversary at a birthday party. It was a very special and memorable week!
