Seabrook Police Make DWI Arrest Following Hit-and-Run Accident

SEABROOK, NH — At approximately 4:30 pm on October 26, 2026, Seabrook Police responded to a motor vehicle accident between a vehicle and a moped on Route 286 near Washington Street. The suspect vehicle, reported to be a silver sedan operated by a female, immediately fled the scene and the moped operator was injured.

Officers arrived with Seabrook Fire and began interviewing witnesses and assessing the victim. Officers located a witness who had been driving a Tesla with built in cameras that captured footage of the incident. Based upon the video evidence captured by the witness vehicle’s cameras, Seabrook Police were able to locate the suspect vehicle at 8 Janvrin Drive in Seabrook. Officers made contact with the driver, identified as Darlene E. Desjardins age 59 of Seabrook. Following additional investigation, Desjardins was charged with:

Driving While Intoxicated (Misdemeanor A)
Driving While Intoxicated Subsequent (Misdemeanor A)
Conduct After an Accident (Misdemeanor A)
Driving after Suspension (Misdemeanor A)

Desjardins was released on Personal Recognizance Bail and ordered to appear before the 10th Circuit Hampton District Court on November 4th, 2026.

The 44-year-old female victim was transported to Portsmouth Regional Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Seabrook Police Chief Brett Walker said, “This incident highlights the dangers that exist with impaired drivers on the roadway. We are grateful that the victim was not more seriously injured and that a witness immediately came forward to assist us in locating the alleged offender. The value of the evidence recovered from the witness’ vehicle cannot be underscored in this case.”

The women and men of the Seabrook Police Department extend our deepest sympathies to our sisters and brothers at the Haverhill Police Department as well as the family and friends of Captain Fogarty. You are in our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

It is with deep sadness that we share the passing of Captain Andrea Fogarty after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer.

Captain Fogarty served this department and the citizens of Haverhill with distinction for 27+ years. Throughout a long and dedicated career, she was known for unwavering professionalism, strong leadership, and a genuine commitment to the men and women of this department and the community we serve. Even during her illness, Captain Fogarty remained positive, resilient, and deeply appreciative of the support shown to her, reflecting the strength of character that defined her both personally and professionally.

Her impact on this police department is lasting, and her absence will be deeply felt. During her three decades of service, she served in multiple assignments, including Community Policing, with multiple NEMLEC units, and for a large majority of her career in our Detective division. She will be greatly missed by all of us who had the privilege to work alongside her and call her a friend.

The members of the Haverhill Police Department extend our sincere condolences to Captain Fogarty’s family, friends, and loved ones during this difficult time. We ask that you keep them in your thoughts and prayers during this time.
