FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Seal Rock Fire District

Structure Fire in the 900 Block of NW Downing Lane Under Investigation

SEAL ROCK, Ore. — October 19, 2026 — Seal Rock Fire District is providing the following information regarding a residential structure fire that occurred Monday, October 19, 2026, in the 900 block of NW Downing Lane.

At approximately 9:56 p.m., multiple callers reported a house fire at the location. When fire personnel arrived on scene, the residence was fully involved, and extending into the surrounding wildland.

Fire suppression operations began immediately, with crews working to control the structure fire and prevent further spread into the surrounding area. Through coordinated suppression efforts, the fire was brought under control in approximately one hour.

Additional fire resources were requested through mutual aid. Responding agencies worked alongside Seal Rock Fire District personnel to assist with suppression and containment efforts.

Agencies assisting with the incident included:
• East Lincoln County
• Yachats Fire
• Central Coast Fire
• Newport Fire

Incidents like this demonstrate the critical role that mutual aid and interagency cooperation play during emergencies. When a fire threatens a structure and begins extending into the surrounding wildland, a coordinated response can be essential to managing the incident and protecting the community.

Fire agencies routinely work together during critical incidents, bringing personnel, equipment, experience, and specialized capabilities to support the response. This teamwork allows departments to share resources, coordinate suppression strategies, and support one another when an incident exceeds the capacity of a single agency.
These partnerships are built through ongoing cooperation, communication, training, and a shared commitment to public safety. When an emergency occurs, that preparation becomes action, with responders from multiple agencies working toward a common goal.

Seal Rock Fire District extends a big thank you with sincere appreciation to East Lincoln County, Yachats Fire, Central Coast Fire, Newport Fire, and all their personnel who contributed to the response.

Their assistance and coordinated efforts reflect the strength of the mutual aid partnerships that help protect our communities during challenging and potentially dangerous

The cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding it remain under investigation.

To protect the integrity of the investigation, Seal Rock Fire District will not release additional details or speculate about the cause of the fire at this time. Further official updates will be provided by the appropriate investigating agencies as information becomes available and can be released.

Time isn’t just measured in hours, it’s measured by who you choose to spend it with and what you spend it building.

Most people see firefighters on the scene, but few realize how many hundreds of hours go into study and practice before ever answering that first call.

Today was Day 2 of Firefighter 1 Academy, and it was a powerful reminder of what this journey really takes.

Training to serve a community means willingly trading away personal free time, evenings, and weekends to build skills where there’s zero room for error alongside people who are quickly becoming family.

Today’s grind balanced classroom science with heavy hands-on ex*****on. Time was spent diving deep into fire behavior, studying thermal dynamics, fire growth, and critical warning signs like flashovers so we can predict a fire's next move before ever stepping inside a burning building.

From there, we focused on forced entry drills with the irons and Halligan, building the leverage and muscle memory needed to pop locks and breach barriers in seconds.

We rounded the day out with low-visibility search and rescue drills, learning how to navigate pitch-black rooms, stay coordinated with a partner, and locate trapped victims purely by touch.

It takes endless repetition, sweat, and sacrifice
but sharing this time with a team driven by the same purpose makes every single minute worth it.

Respect the grind!

Sunday training in Firefighter 1 academy hits different. There's nothing quite like pulling hose, throwing ladders, or doing fire drills while the rest of the world is sleeping in or relaxing

First class in the books with an incredible turnout!

Great seeing so many showing up for this 8-week journey, stepping up to answer the call.

Huge thanks to the best instructors in the business for setting the standard high.

Good times and solid training ahead with our neighboring partners.

The future of the fire service is looking bright!!

Huge congrats to Wyatt Taylor!

Wyatt just hit a massive double milestone and officially wrapped up BOTH his NFPA Firefighter 1 and his NFPA Fire Apparatus Driver/Operator certifications!

Getting these sign-offs here in Oregon is honestly no joke. Wyatt had to master all the foundational fire behavior and grueling physical skills for Firefighter 1, plus put in a ton of extra hours studying and practicing behind the wheel to handle those massive rigs safely under pressure.

Grinding through those DPSST task books takes serious dedication, and Wyatt absolutely crushed it!

Wyatt, we are so incredibly proud of your work ethic and everything you do to keep our community safe. We’re so lucky to have you on the lines and behind the wheel!

Next time you see him around the station, or out about in the community, make sure to high-five him or drop a comment below to show him some love!

25 years later, the clarity of that morning and the depth of our collective grief remains unchanged.

Today, we pause to honor the nearly 3000 innocent lives taken too soon.

We stand in gratitude for the heroic first responders who gave everything.

Out of the darkness of that day, we also remember the profound unity, resilience and kindness that brought a nation together.

We carry their memory with us always.

Ever wonder how fast a firefighter actually has to move when an emergency call comes in?

This week during drill at the station, we were running our classic "boots to bunkers" drill. It looks simple on paper, but it’s intense: stepping into heavy turnout pants, zipping up a protective coat, pulling on a Nomex hood, locking down a helmet, and grabbing gloves—all while strapping into 45 to 60 pounds of gear.

Why do we practice this you ask?

We drill to do this in under 90 seconds (and our recruits aim for under 60!). Why do we practice it over and over? Because when the tones drop, muscle memory is the only thing that matters. That split-second speed is what keeps us safe and gets us to the scene fast.

And tonight, that training went straight from the drill yard to the real world! Right in the middle of our reps, a call came in for a public assist: a cat named Max was stuck tight in a crawl space.
As animal lovers, we know that heart-pounding panic you feel when your furry family member is scared and trapped. We were so glad we could step in, reassure a very stressed owner, and safely get Max back out into the light.

The best update? Max is safe and sound—even if he's currently giving us the ultimate grumpy glare for interrupting his wild adventure of hide and seek! The owner was so thankful, our district coverage handled everything seamlessly, and.. we made it back to finish our training.

From heavy gear to happy pets, it's just another day on the job.

Quick question for you: Did you know bunker gear weighed that much? Let us know in the comments, and drop your favorite pet mischief story below

Liquid Sunshine & a Little Fire Safety Reminder!

We’re loving the rain! It’s refreshing, it helps our yards and forests, and after a dry stretch, it can feel like Mother Nature is giving us a helping hand.
But here’s the important part: rain doesn’t mean the burn ban is over.

Even with a little “liquid sunshine,” vegetation can dry out quickly, and outdoor burning can get out of control faster than you might think. So please, hold off on those burn piles and follow the current burn restrictions.

And while you’re enjoying the rainy weather:

Slow down on wet roads and give yourself extra stopping distance.
Never drive or walk through floodwater.
Turn around, don’t drown!
Hear thunder? Head inside.
Keep gutters and drains clear to help prevent water from backing up.

And remember—the burn ban is still in effect.

We’ll take the rain, thank you very much!

Stay dry. Stay safe. And please—don’t burn just because it’s raining.
