Could your family escape a house fire in 2 minutes?
When a fire starts, every second counts. You may have less than two minutes to escape safely once your smoke alarm sounds. Having a plan and practicing it ahead of time can make all the difference.

Take a few minutes to prepare your household:

• Know two ways out. Identify two exits from every room whenever possible.

• Choose a meeting place. Pick a safe location outside where everyone can gather.

• Practice your plan. Conduct home fire drills at least twice a year, including at night.

• Check your smoke alarms. Test alarms monthly and make sure they’re working properly.

Once outside, stay outside and call 911. Never go back into a burning building.

A little preparation today can make a lifesaving difference tomorrow.

Seaside Fire & Rescue is committed to keeping our community informed, prepared, and safe.

ARE YOU CHARGING SAFELY?
October is Fire Prevention Month, and Seaside Fire & Rescue is reminding our community that fire prevention starts with the everyday choices we make.
From smartphones and laptops to power tools and e-bikes, lithium-ion batteries power many of the devices we rely on. While convenient, these batteries can pose serious fire hazards if damaged, improperly charged, or used incorrectly.
Charge Smarter with These Safety Tips:
• Always use manufacturer-approved chargers and cables.
• Charge devices on a hard, flat surface with adequate airflow.
• Keep charging devices away from beds, pillows, blankets, and other combustible materials.
Know the Warning Signs!
Unusual heat, swelling, leaking, strange odors, or hissing and popping noises can indicate a failing battery.
If a battery begins smoking or catches fire, evacuate immediately and call 911. Do not attempt to handle the battery.
Small changes can prevent big emergencies.
Throughout Fire Prevention Month, we’ll be sharing safety tips to help keep our community informed, prepared, and safe.

Probation Complete | Firefighter Swearing-In Ceremony

Seaside Fire & Rescue is proud to recognize Firefighters Levi Dickey and Tucker Golightly on the successful completion of their year-long probationary period!

Since beginning their careers with Seaside Fire & Rescue last October, both firefighters have demonstrated dedication, professionalism, and a strong commitment to serving our community.

Throughout the past year, Levi and Tucker have spent countless hours training, developing their skills, and helping train others, all while learning the responsibilities, expectations, and traditions of the fire service.

As part of their probationary requirements, both firefighters earned their Advanced EMT certifications. Going above and beyond, they continued their education and achieved their EMT Intermediate certifications, further strengthening their ability to provide emergency medical care to our community.

We are fortunate to have two hardworking young firefighters who are committed to continually improving themselves and those around them. Their dedication throughout the past year reflects the values and traditions of Seaside Fire & Rescue.

We would also like to extend a special thank you to their families for the encouragement, patience, and unwavering support they have provided throughout this demanding year. Your support has played an important role in their success.

Please join us in congratulating Firefighters Dickey and Golightly on completing probation and officially being sworn in! We look forward to watching them continue to grow and wish them both long, safe, and successful careers in the fire service.

👏 Congratulations, Levi and Tucker!

INSIDE SEASIDE FIRE | What’s on the Rig?

One of the tools carried on our apparatus is a thermal imaging camera, or TIC.

A TIC detects differences in surface temperature and displays those differences as an image, giving firefighters another source of information during emergency operations.

Crews can use it during searches, fire attack, overhaul, size-up, and other situations where heat patterns can help us better understand conditions.

It’s an important tool, but it doesn’t replace firefighter training, physical searches, or situational awareness.

Swipe through to see what a TIC looks like, what firefighters see through it, and how we use it. ➡️

SEASIDE READY | Fall Beach Safety

Seaside’s lifeguard season may be over, but ocean safety doesn’t have an offseason.

As we move into fall and winter, changing surf conditions and cold water can create hazards along the Oregon Coast. Whether you’re walking the beach, recreating near the water, or heading out on the ocean, take a few minutes to check conditions and know the risks before you go.

Swipe through for a few reminders to help you stay safe at the beach this fall. ➡️

While seasonal lifeguard staffing has ended, Seaside Fire & Rescue continues to respond to water rescue emergencies year-round. If you see someone in trouble in the water, call 911 and be prepared to give dispatch your location and a description of what you’re seeing.

Stay safe and enjoy the coast. 🌊
