Kings of King County Chess Club (hereafter KKCCC) is a program under WestGate Foundation that teaches Life Skills through Chess to African-American “at-risk” youth, ages 9-14 years old, in urban neighborhoods and schools, through recreational gaming and mentorship.
KKCCC has as its target demographic, low-income African American males. We choose to establish our afterschool and summer program in urban neighborhoods as an alternative to many of the vices and negative engagements (drugs, gangs, violence, broken homes, etc.) that impacts our kids at these most vulnerable and impressionable ages.
Kings of King County Chess Club (program) has established this program for the expressed purpose of impacting African-American youth within inner-city neighborhoods and schools as a contributor and partner with the parents, the educational system, and the community; providing a recreational and therapeutic alternative to many of the negative impacts that plague our inner cities and render our next generation vulnerable to the resulting conditions.
