INTRO
In many parts of Africa, accessing quality health care has long been a daunting challenge, especially for those in remote or hard-to-reach areas. Yet, a technological transformation is underway, reshaping this narrative.
Through innovative tools like AI-powered chatbots and teleconsultations, barriers to care are being reduced, providing timely support and empowering individuals to take charge of their health. This shift is not only improving lives locally but also setting the stage for global impact in health care delivery.
Read about Tiwonge, a vibrant mother of three from rural Malawi, navigating the complexities of health care while living miles away from the nearest clinic. Her story mirrors that of countless others across the continent who are now witnessing the transformative power of AI-driven telehealth.

Guest blog post from GlobalWA member Panorama Strategy
INTRO
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is generating a lot of buzz across all sectors, and global health is no exception. Many see AI as a promising tool that could transform health systems, making them more effective and accessible. Like any breakthrough technology, however, AI comes with its own set of implementation challenges and unknowns.
The good news? While we’re still in the early stages of understanding how to harness its potential, the global health field is not starting from scratch. We can learn from past innovations. By applying lessons from those efforts – what’s worked and what hasn’t – we can shape better, more practical strategies to ensure AI supports improved health and wellbeing worldwide.

Ultrasounds in Hand, Midwives are Transforming Maternal Health
From GlobalWA member Gates Foundation
Nurses and midwives have deep expertise that saves women’s lives every day. With new portable and AI-enabled ultrasounds in hand, they can do more.
EXCERPT
Jane Waire is part of an initial cohort of Kenyan nurses and midwives trained to use a new, more portable version of the machine, designed specifically for the needs of low- and middle-income countries. This powerful handheld device is straightforward to operate. The wand is connected to a tablet computer, not a bulky machine. The device is about 5% of the cost of larger machines. And soon, such devices will incorporate artificial intelligence ( ) capabilities, making them even more agile in identifying pregnancy risk factors.

AI In Healthcare: Trends And Turning Points
From Forbes
EXCERPT
Alvin Graylin of Virtual World Society and GenAI Consultant Karl Zhao recently sat down to talk about the realities of AI in healthcare, stateside and around the world. I thought this was helpful in seeking analysis on these healthcare systems and how this is going to play out, with the understanding that international trade is nuanced, and we have various stakeholders operating from their own points of view, in a global economy that most would agree is globally interconnected.

Philanthropy in Latin America: A Critical Moment, a Necessary Conversation
April 10 at 9am PT
At a time of profound shifts in international funding, this webinar aims to open an urgent conversation about the present and future of philanthropy in Latin America. Local organizations are facing increasing challenges following the closure of the Inter-American Foundation (IAF) and USAID cuts. This situation has revealed the fragility of traditional cooperation models and the need to build new ways to sustain grassroots work.
The event will be structured in three parts: first, a general overview of the current state of philanthropy and international cooperation in Latin America; second, preliminary findings from a regional survey assessing the impact of these funding cuts; and finally, a conversation about collective response strategies, collaborative networks, and the fundamental role of community philanthropy and local funds.

This webinar will explore how these dynamics are playing out—particularly in Venezuela, Cuba, and Nicaragua—examining both the mechanisms of control, such as “anti-terrorism” laws, sanctions, and geopolitical pressures, and their effects on the safety and sustainability of humanitarian and human rights work.
