What: Cut from a Different Cloth Workshop with Dalcetta Palepale
Date: Sunday, May 31st, 2026 | 12:00pm - 2:00pm
Location: Madespace - 2002 E Union St, Seattle, WA 98122
Cut from a Different Cloth Art Workshop
Cut From A Different Cloth is a guided mixed-media self-portrait workshop centered on self-love, confidence, and celebrating the beauty of who you are. Created as a self-portrait experience for everyone, this workshop invites participants to reflect on their identity, individuality, and the parts of themselves that deserve to be seen, honored, and celebrated.
Inspired by my signature faceless portrait style, guests will create vibrant, layered portraits that focus on expression beyond physical features. Rather than painting facial details, participants will use shape, color, pattern, texture, and symbolism to tell the story of who they are—what makes them unique, what makes them radiant, and what parts of themselves deserve more love.
In honor of AAPI Heritage Month, the workshop also incorporates tapa/ngatu-inspired collage elements as a way to celebrate storytelling through pattern, culture, and layered identity. Each finished piece becomes both a keepsake and a visual affirmation—a reminder to take up space, move with confidence, and honor the beauty of being themselves.
Using paint, collage, and intuitive mark-making, each participant will leave with a bold and meaningful self-portrait—a visual affirmation of confidence, creativity, and the beauty of taking up space.

Wahi Hoʻomanaʻo: Coconut Wreath and Feather Flower Workshop
A wahi hoʻomanaʻo is a place of remembrance. In this workshop, you will create two items to use in a personal altar or sacred place in your home. These can be used to honor those who have passed, or to carry wishes for someone yet to come.
Participants will create a coconut wreath or table piece, led by master weaver Aunty U‘i from Lahaina. This can serve as the foundation for your altar and be added to in class and at home.
Resident artist Malia will share how to make feather flowers, a long-lasting keepsake to add to your altar or wear in your hair. An activity station will also be set up for kids to make their own flowers from felt.
Participants are welcome to bring small items or photos of loved ones to share their story.

May 5th, is the National Day of Awareness and Remembrance for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and 2SLGBTQI+ people (MMIWG2S+).
Today and everyday, we honor and remember our stolen relatives. Those whose names echo in the wind, whose voices will never be silenced, whose stories were never finished, whose strength still walks beside us. We light a fire in their honor, and vow to carry their memory into action.
Hummingbird Indigenous Family Services’ sacred work is to protect, care and support our pregnant and birthing relatives. The percentage of MMIWG2S who were pregnant or one year postpartum is unclear. There is an immediate need for more research and data to uplift their stories.
We honor and mourn the lives of our missing and murdered Indigenous pregnant relatives. We remember. We rise. We fight for justice. They are not forgotten. Forever sacred.
WE MUST PROTECT PREGNANT INDIGENOUS RELATIVES!
