Feminist 4 Jina Statement on Palestine: Palestinian Liberation is a Feminist Imperative
With our oppressors uniting, it is becoming increasingly clear that all our struggles for freedom are interconnected, and that no one will be free until we are all free.
-Angela Davis
We, the committed members of Feminists for Jina in Seattle, assert our unwavering solidarity with the people of Palestine in their restless resistance against colonialism and apartheid. The crux of this issue is the oppressive Israeli settler-colonial regime that has suffocated every aspect of Palestinian existence for 75 years.
As feminists, activists, educators, and scholars, our principles never align with the oppressor. We consistently oppose injustice, regardless of the repercussions. Passive observation of the horrors of bombings, ethnic cleansing, and prolonged apartheid is not our way. We understand that discussing these issues within the insulated circles of academia or feminist and leftist groups is insufficient. We must rise, project our voices into the abyss, and firmly proclaim: Palestinian Liberation is a Feminist Imperative. Our voices, united in power and purpose, will not waver. Drawing inspiration from Maya Angelou, we come as one, but stand as 10,000.
The Palestinian resistance must be contextualized within a prolonged history of settler-colonial subjugation. For three-quarters of a century, the Israeli government’s iron-fisted military occupation has turned Palestinian lives into a living testament of apartheid. Gaza manifests this brutal subjugation, having been reduced to an open-air prison over the past two decades. Since the onset of the conflict, Israel has placed Gaza under a severe blockade, limiting its access to basic necessities, such as electricity, food, water, and fuel. The Israeli forces have persistently bombarded the Gaza Strip and utilized internationally prohibited white phosphorus munitions against Palestinians in northern Gaza.
We stand unequivocally in solidarity with the Palestinian people, not with any reactionary groups such as Hamas. The brutal attack attributed to Hamas is tragic, but it is a direct consequence of prolonged subjugation and the crime of apartheid by the Israeli regime.
History has shown that oppressed populations will undeniably rise for their liberation. The path to freedom lies in dismantling the roots of violence and transforming tyrannical political structures into just and democratic entities. Today, more than ever, Palestinian resistance demands unconditional support from the international community to succeed in its struggle against injustice and oppression, paving the way for a future of peace and dignity for all Palestinians.
From The River To The Sea, Palestine Will Be Free.
