Meet Angela! (she/her) She is also an international student from Hong Kong, a Senior in the BASW program and the OSSW Social Media Manager this year.
————
Hi everyone! I am interested in international social work and humanitarian work. When I was in high school and college, I volunteered to provide education and basic supplies in rural schools in Jamaica and China. These experiences have inspired me to study social work and explore in the humanitarian field.
My service learning last year was in the Food Bank of Asian Counseling and Referral Service. Being a food bank helper strengthens my knowledge of the basic need and food distribution in the community. I found so much love and connection in this community.
For my practicum, I continually work with Asian Counseling Referral Service. Supporting the Youth Job Readiness Training Program and Family Support Program not only gave me an opportunity to work with high school students and their parents/guardians, but also gave me an understanding of the local public school system. I like trying different new positions in order to explore the various social work field (from Micro to Marco level).
In my spare time, I love hiking, photographing, taking vlog and going adventure!! Nature can heal everything🌿

Hello everyone 🐋
I have a passion for studying cultural diversity and disability justice, and in improving the quality healthcare for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs) and co-occurring mental illness.
Last year, I had my service learning at Ballinger Homes — Center for Human Services. I worked as a Homework Factory’s mentor and was given the opportunity to support students not only academic success but also social and emotional development through cultural activity and dialogues. 🧸
My practicum this year is with Sound (formerly Sound Mental Health). I am working as a case manager for the IDD Services and Community Networks Program. They emphasize on the importance of community integration and apply a strengths-based model with a focus on adaptive behavior strategies to support people to improve their quality of life. 🧡
My self-care routine: drawing, cooking, watching nature & wildlife documentaries and spending lots of time with my kitties 𓃠 ♡

Hi everyone! My name is Lena (she/her) and I am a BASW senior and the secretary for OSSW✨
My interests lie in learning to advocate for an equitable educational system and student-centered, narrative based curriculum in public schools.
Last year for service learning, I served as an AmeriCorps member in UW’s Jumpstart program—a program that pairs UW students to assist teachers in under-resourced preschools around Seattle. I found so much joy, strength and happiness in a classroom that nurtured play and had teachers that celebrated and represented the backgrounds of the children💫
This year for practicum, I have the opportunity to intern at Rainier Beach High School (go Vikings!) to learn more about supporting students beyond the classroom and being a part of a school that celebrates its students and their leadership🌻 I have the opportunity to learn about transformative justice circles, support student clubs, as well as support the Rent Justice campaign starting at the school.
My hobbies are taking long walks, scrapbooking, crocheting and listening to soft, throwback love songs ☀️
